halifax bank charges (merged)

Don't know much about how Halifax handles possible account closures but what I can say is that the "without admission of liability" part merely is a face-saving exercise, where the bank says "we are right and your claim has no legal standing but because we can't be bothered going to court over your claim we are going to pay you". They have to be careful - if they admitted liability they would open a whole can of worms.Reclaimed thanks to this site:

Hi, Beate
Thanks for your feedback:Don't know much about how Halifax handles possible account closures but what I can say is that the "without admission of liability" part merely is a face-saving exercise, where the bank says "we are right and your claim has no legal standing but because we can't be bothered going to court over your claim we are going to pay you"...
Practically says what I thought they had meant for a second.
Will check my account over next week for when the Refund goes in. Meantime I'll study the other threads for more advice.
Cheers again,
Dean Clarke0 -
deacee - The "but without admission of liability" part means that they are NOT acknowledging that they are in the wrong but they are williing to pay out as a good will gesture and to avoid the costs of court.
Basically it means "yes we know we're wrong and we know legally we don't have a leg to stand on but we refuse to say we're in the wrong because then we'll be inundated with claims that we can't hope to defend".0 -
I have read every post on this thread so far, wow my heads hurts, lots of info most the same. Been hard to keep tracked what I have read and haven't.
Just a quick question, peace of mind. I am trying to recover charges from several Halifax accounts, two are mine one is a joint account with my partner and the other one is her own one, all totalling £2,000. We asked for statements but never really got them, rang after a few weeks and they said they send charges letter which we got one for each account which itemised each charge over the past 6 years.
Am I right in applying for all the charges on the same letter/system or will I have to ask/demand using separate letters/requests?
My partners account is only around £100 and the MCOL route doesn't seem cost effective (even thought they will pay back these costs) Keeping track of one case seems better than several.
Look forward to some replies thanks again.

Morning all. I have had a claim for £1338 against Halifax since beginning of March. After sending all the template letters and waiting the full 8 weeks for them to investigate(i couldn't afford the £120 court fee again as i have paid against Lloyds TSB). When i recieved the standard our charges are fair blah blah blah letter i was reading through some threads and came to the "insider hints against Halifax" thread. I decided to give it a go. I called the number and got through to a very nice man who was very supprised i knew we could ask for our claim to be re-evaluated!He asked where i got my info i just said from nowhere im just asking ifs its possible(guess he didn't know about MSE?) Ha ha. He then said fine but it will be up to 8 weeks again! This was the beginning of June last week i got so fed up i filled in the financial ombudsman complaint form and posted it off. However on Saturday i recieve a gesture of goodwill offer for £627 less than half my claim and i haven't added interest. I have rung all morning the 01244 number on the letter and after it ringing out for just over an hour a lady answered. I gave her ref number explained was willing to accept as part payment and asked whether we can negiotiate? She then took my number and said someone will call me back today to discuss. Heres hoping keep your fingers crossed0

Hi everyone, good morning on this horrible wet soggy day!
I'd like some advice please, I've been trying to reclaim from the Abbey, I received a letter about 4/5 weeks ago stating that it would take 4 weeks for them to look at my claim. I sent them a letter saying I wasnt happy with the delay and threatened court proceedings. I received a letter back on Saturday offering me £435 (am claiming £1435.00)! Should I take this or fight on! If I fight on, what do I do next please?
Thank you

Hi Debbie .. if they have given you a number to call why not just give them a ring and express your dissatisfaction at the offer and ask for a review of it that is what I did with my Halifax account ..

Halifax Bank
Amount claimed £876 + Interest
Amount paid £876
Started Claim beginning of April..Got the standard decline letter at the End of May. Phoned to ask them to revaluate my claim beginning of June and was told anything up to Eight Weeks. Rang a week later and got told it was two to three weeks to expect before a decision made .
After reading threads on this site I did the obvious.......I phoned Graham last Tuesday and was told by the very nice gentleman that he'd get an offer out in two to three days.
Saturday 23rd june...received 50% letter....phonedtoday and spoke to the Gorgeous Graham and bartered to the £876. Apparently he has been looking at this site over the weekend and is slightly embarrassed.
May I thank all on this site for their advice and also if you're reading this...THANKS GRAHAM :T I know you are just doing your job but the manner you use and the way you have dealt with us all is second to none.
Keep the faith all you who are still trying !!! It'll be worth it
PS. It shortens my debt period by 2 months roughly !!!!!0 -

Number I rang for 'Graham the Great' was 01977 627313. Be gentle with him as he's one of the good guys, also I've found being pleasant and having a joke with them is better than getting shirty !! It just a job after all !!!
Good Luck!0
