From reading other threads on this site ring the number on top of the letter and say you are not happy with the offer and you are turning it down. they will probably negotiate a higher offer. if you still dont get what you want tell them that if you cant agree you will go through the Financial Ombundsmen (that will cost the bank £350) as that may also help to get an increased offer

I claimed from Halifax. I had all my statements so did nt have to wait for them. i received a reply from them within the 14 days offering a settlement which was only £20.00 less than I had claimed and the money was paid into my account in 14 days

Well done you!! Me thinks, however, that you have the wrong user name!!!!

Still waiting for my re-evaluation altho' told yesterday that it had been 'diarised' and should therefore be dealt within the next couple of days!! Here's hoping!!!

Mid March claimed £4550,recieved letter stating "fees are legitimate" etc,on 5th May,phoned up asked for re-evaluation,offered £1914 on 15th June, phoned again, settled on £3,000,Yipee!!.Today i went to withdraw the money from my dormant(but not closed)account, only to be informed all funds had been reclaimed by BOS for a c/c card account which defaulted in 2000,and i have been paying off in instalments since,Booo!!Is this standard practice?

Hi, this is worrying for me too. I have a Halifax cc account which I am also paying off by monthly instalments. I am claiming for two accounts totalling about £4,800 with interest. I sincerely hope and pray that they dont do this to me. I would be absolutely gutted. I wouldnt have thought they could do this at least without contacting you first. Are you going to appeal. let me know how you get on. tjc

didnt have any contact, the branch couldn't even find out why i could not withdraw the money,I even thought the debt had been taken on by a 3rd party which had bought the debt from BOS,I hasten to add they also paid my outstanding overdraft of about£250,which i expected and have no problem with, any ideas who to appeal to,financial ombudsmen?or is it a lost cause? Thanks for any help.

hi all........... Need some help please...

started claim for just over 2K against Halifax end of March. Given usual 8 eights and they then refused my claim. Rang them around 25th May and followed the telephone call up with a letter. I asked them to re-evaluate my claim - which appraently they are doing..... Rang earlier this week to chase my claim and was told that it had been escalated. The man was very polite and helpful and advised to hang on in there - an offer would be with me shortly. Told him he has until next Friday (29th) or i would proceed with court and they would look favourably on me as i had given them their time scale and some to reach an amicable settlement..

Any ideas on where i stand at the moment and any ideas on time??

    cheers

I had got my statements and a holding letter from HBOS, then i got the standard decline letter all within about 3 weeks. Trouble was the account number noted at the top of the letter was not the account i'd made the claim on!!! So i called them and verified from my reference number that they'd got my letter requesting full amount back plus interest, totalling £1700approx. They said this was the account they were refusing to pay out on. I told them, nicely, that i wasn't confident the investigation had been done on the correct account information since the letter was under the wrong account number, and could it be re-evaluated.

    Fingers crossed!!

  • Hi, Does anyone know how long it takes the defence to arrive, HSBC has entered a defence but I haven't herd anything as yet? Reclaiming £1600 and my account has been closed for 2 years, I am starting to lose the will to live!
