sorry but I am new to this site so please bear with me if posts are not up to scratch
Hello all,
I asked for all my previous statements for my halifax and was told it was at a £5 charge for each month. Have phoned a couple of times now and told the same thing. However they did tell me that I have had to pay £1900 in charges since my account was open in 2002. Can I appy for interest on this as well and if so how much? AlsoI have sent two letters and upon reading this thread I am not sure if its a healthy idea to take the matter to court. Please give me some advice
Hi, what you need to do is ask for a list of charges dating back over the last 6 years,as per the first charge reclaim letter, which also states that if they cannot provide you with the charges info that they would need to send you the statements for the last 6 years instead - in which case only a maximum of £10 can be charged (the Halifax actually told me they didn't charge for this anymore, but send the cheque anyway to save time). I'd start again making sure you use the letters on this site.
As for interest, it's charged at 8% so you could add £152 to the £1900
Hope this is helpful
All the best

I am at the acknowledgement stage, the bank was served on the 16th June. there are many of us in this position. But Hang on in there. It is very daunting taking a high street bank to court and to be very honest, quite nerve wracking. Worrying about putting a court bundle together, appearing at court and thinking to yourself, 'I bet I am the one they will make an example of..'
With the help of Martin's website, comrades on the forums, you will get your money back. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Just think, two years ago, all of us thought this money was gone forever.
UK high street banks are utterly ruthless, if they could get out of paying anyone, they would have discovered how to do it by now. But, they have,nt.
Like me, hang in there. It's not easy, it's very scary, drives you mad, but justice will prevail.0 -

Hi, an update on my Halifax claim:
I received the standard 1st rejection letter last week and decided to phone the 0191 number to ask them to reconsider. They said someone would look into it when I phoned on 14th June and to give it a week or two. So, I left it a week and phoned back yesterday and asked for a progress report. The nice girl I spoke to said my re-evaluation was still waiting to be looked at, and she would note my reference number and try to look at it that day or today.
I've just phoned up again today and apparently she did indeed look at it this morning and a letter has been sent out offering me £388 as a goodwill gesture. But I'm claiming for £1028 so will phone them on Monday and ask if there could be any possible movement on this (would be happy with £800 or the full amount). But still, I think that £388 is an admission of guilt and I think I could end up with the full amount :T
So, wish me luck for Monday
Dan
Hi funkydan, you will get a 0151 number which is a new office and push for the amount you are happy with and to help explain what hardship it may have caused. I was offered half but pushed for full amount . Was polite and on two seperate accounts got full amount.
Good luck:j

hi all
started claim for just over 2K against Halifax end of March. Given usual 8 eights and they then refused my claim. Rang them around 25th May and followed the telephone call up with a letter. I asked them to re-evaluate my claim - which appraently they are doing..... Rang earlier this week to chase my claim and was told that it had been escalated. The man was very polite and helpful and advised to hang on in there - an offer would be with me shortly. Told him he has until next Friday (29th) or i would proceed with court and they would look favourably on me as i had given them their time scale and some to reach an amicable settlement..
Any ideas on where i stand at the moment and any ideas on time??
cheers

Hello everyone
Just started my long journey to reclaiming my bank charges from both Halifax and Egg... I'm so scared and am clinging to this site for support
Strangely enough both banks have offered to give me my statements for free (?)- I was expecting a £10 charge. Anyway will keep you informed. Admire those of you who have seen your case through and won some/all of your money back.

I always thought they could offset it against any debt outstanding on the account ie. overdraft but nothing else as they are covered by seperate terms and conditions ?!
