halifax bank charges (merged)

They told me that one cheque was issued yesterday for the original offer, and then I was told today that the other monies owed to me will be issued today and that although they say 14 days it should be in the next couple.
Sorry I recieved my offer today by the way.0 -
Thanks sofistikate. I will have a go, nothing to loose !!0

Well she did try the usual blurb about charges being fair etc but when I reminded her that it is common knowledge that it costs at the most £3 to issue letters and bounce cheques not the £39 they charge she did waiver. I also added that in the period that most of the charges where applied to my account I was in the middle of a divorce and on benefits and although I practically begged them to help me they still whacked all the charges on me.
Even if this wasn't your case if you read some of the stories you will tend to know about the things they shouldnt do. They have already offered you something you need to push it now and even if you dont get the full amount you could get close to it.0 -
51 start with the full amount and then when you think she is going to give you the final offer up it by £200 saying that you will accept that and that is your final offer. Good luck I would love to know how you get on. Please pm me and let me know if you dont mind.0

Its good to hear from a real person whos done it already - thanks.I have been on benefit for a long time following a divorce as it happens, but I have had the odd charge wavered when I rang and pleaded. Maybe i could get away with the same reasons....... do you think? I am definately going to give it a go. As long as they cant take back their offer. I will let you know how I get on - if I can find my way back here again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

Thanks, do you think its worth giving them a ring?
Yeah I called them, they said it would take 8 weeks. I'm not willing to wait, so I said 'you have 14 days then i'm starting court action'.
I'll call them again on the 14th day and see if I can scare them into paying up. If not MCOL here I come!:money:0 -
I dont know if anyone else has found this, the way your claim gets delt with depends on whose desk it lands on and how they are feeling that day!!!
Myself, my brother and my mom are all in the pursuit of a claim with the halifax.
**My brother first contacted them roughly at the end of March requesting his bank statements, he still has not recieved them despite many phonecalls and threats!!! BUT he has recieved a letter declining his claim even though he has yet to put a claim in!!! figure that one out ha ha.
My mom requested her statements and recieved them within 4 weeks she then filed a claim for her bank charges back at the beguinning of April she recieved a sorry but we think they are fair letter within two weeks!!!
I requested my bank statements and recieved them within a week, i then filed my claim and recieved a we will get back to you within 8 weeks letter!!
We all have our accounts at the same branch so why would we all get a compleatly different response, the only thing we can can think of is our idea of that we have all landed a different desk!!!
Has anyone else found this It is rather annoying though dont you think!!!:rolleyes:0 -
Hi
I received the letter a while back saying the bank had 8 weeks by law to respond, Ignored this and gave them the 14 days ie. stuck to MY deadline.
I then received a letter stating I would get a response no later than the 3rd of June, this was again past the 14 days I had given them when I informed them I would go to court. I went ahead and started the court proceedings and it was deemed to be served on 4th June. Today I received a letter dated 5th June turning me down, the one i was expecting! Eventually got through to them by phone, not on the 01977 number I might add. I was informed by the somewhat snooty young lady that they did indeed by law have 8 weeks and the letter was within the dead line, I argued the fact that I had been told that I would hear by the 3rd and that the letter I had received today was dated the 5th she gave a begrudging apology for that. However as I have now gone down the court route, what do you think my chances are now? Does the fact that they didn't get back to me as promised on the 3rd help me at all?0 -
