I've posted in another thread but just to let you know where i am with Halifax.
I sent off for statements, received within 3 weeks or thereabouts. Counted charges, girlfriend woke me with some smelling salts!!! charges came to £5300+ before interest! I suppose this is what happens when you split up with a partner and houses and dogs involved!!
Wrote to Halifax asking for just the £5000 back, refusal letter within a week.
Rung them spoke to a very nice but fed up girl, asked for claim to be reassessed. Told wait upto 8 weeks, told her I was away from end of June and would like a reply before this, she did say it could take upto 8 weeks at the latest usually response before this.
So...at the moment I'm £5300 plus the £5 for copy statements and Interest down.... whats the highest amount that people have reclaimed from HBOS?0 -

I was very excited this morning, got the post saw it was a letter from Hbos (all previous letters had been stamped with the Halifax logo), REFUND!!....But only for £10. They've refunded the postal order I sent for my statements. It says they will be delivered within 40 days...I had them weeks ago. Hey hum! They can't even get a simple letter right.0

Hi, i need some advice for my friend who is on income support..
She has been charged £35 the 2nd of april by halifax for a direct debit which was refused as her account was £5 short. THEN the end of
May she was charged £25 for being less than £1 over the agreed overdraft. She has no agreed overdraft on her account anyway but the bank lets her account go overdrawn if it is there charges.
Can someone PLEASE tell me if the bank are being unlawful? What can she do? this lady is on benefits....0 -
i recieved a letter from halifax in the post. the letter says:
dear .......
thank you for your recent complaint about the charges which have been applied to your account. I am soory you are unhappy.
I have carried out an investigation of your complaint and i am satisfied that the charges have been correctly applied to your account. This letter explains the reasons behind my decision.
when you opened your account, you agreed to our terms and conditions which explained that charges would be applied if you did not keep to the terms of the account. From time to time, we have also sent you information about the current levels of charges. This information formed part of your agreement with us and we have applied them strictly according to the terms agreed.
we apply these charges because when customers have insufficient funds in their account to cover a payment they have asked us to make, this means additional work for us. As a result, we feel it is reasonable to charge for this service.
I am sorry to advise you i am declining your complaint. I hope i have explained the reasons for my decision.
yours sincerley
