You can ask but I certainly don't think you can demand. Have a read of this thread...

  • Have just reported Halifax to IC as I still have not received list of charges/statements requested back in March. Have received letter this week saying that they are looking in to my complaint and have four weeks to do so! Have just received another letter saying that as C/C account is seriously over its credit limit (due to charges and interest over a rough 12 month period) they are closing the account and are demanding full payment or they will pass on to debt collection agency. Payments for the last couple of months have been on time and the minimum payment requested has been made and no call or correspondence prior to this letter has been received in the last couple months. Whilst I know some banks close the accounts after claiming, are they allowed to do this just as you have / are due to report to IC for not providing info under the DPA?
Whilst I know Halifax are not great on sending letters, their customer service just do not assist you and their only advice for me to put the account right was to enter into an IVA - something I did not want to do.
Once I have claimed all my charges back from Bank (Lloyds - urgh!) and CC's then I am virtually debt free!! Yippee! How can I put off paying this balance to Halifax until then, without them putting it to a debt agency?
    Any help would be appreciated!

The next step is the second letter, threatening court proceedings in 14 days. As Kurt says, see the relevant threads for details of how to word the letrers.
