    Hi everyone :D

I started the claim process with Halifax 2 weeks ago by posting the first letter. My claim is for £1800. I received a letter back today advising they are sorry to hear about my complaint, blah blah, will investigate and reply within 4 weeks. I'm not happy to wait this long - should I go ahead and threaten court action? Does this get results?

Sorry, haven't got time to read through all the pages!

    Cheers!

I hope it works for you but I have written on 3rd April, phoned 26th April and written again and received nothing! So dont believe all they tell you. I am personally going into my local branch tomorrow morning to get them cos I am not waiting any longer.

Will let you know if I get them.

    :j

As I said yesterday, I went into my local branch today and walked out half an hour later with a list of all my charges going back to Jan 2001 at no charge! Halifax could not have been more helpful. I explained that I had sent in two letters with two cheques and phoned and no result. She rang through to the Customer Relations Department gave them my account details and within 5 minutes the list was emailed. She then 'stopped' both my cheques with no charge as well.

I would advise anyone to do the same, it saves alot of time waiting around and money.

    Good luck :D

I dint have so much luck!
Apparently they have to go deep into the archives for my statements as I closed the account 3 years ago...Do they think I'm stupid!!! It's bound to be on a cd-rom or computer file somewhere. Not in their dungeon!!!

Hi everyone, I'm new on here so I will have to start from the beginning with my "debt" story ;)

A few months ago I split up from my partner and we both moved back in with our parents and have put our house up for sale. Since we split, we have been going thru really bad financial difficulties. To the point where we can't pay bills and creditors. Some things I have been sending payments for each month, others we cannot afford to send them anything.:o

Anyway, I started to come on here a couple of months ago just having a read really about everyone elses issues and came across the "Claim back your Bank charges" thread. This got me really interested as our joint account is seriously overdrawn cos of all charges we have incurred from the Halifax. Since May 2006 we have been charged £1,500. God knows what we've been charged since the account was opened.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote a complaint letter to the Halifax about these charges, and about the fact they had transferred money from my ex's Halifax A/C into the overdrawn A/C, and transferred another amount to the credit card. They did this without our knowledge, and becuase of that, this months mortagage payment wasn't paid. So, I wrote a letter and received a reply within a couple of days. I was so angry as none of my issues had been addressed and I was sent a simple crap standard letter. So I replied telling him how i felt about his reply and I'm now just waiting for a response. I contacted the Ombudsmand first to get advice.

I am now going to request a full list of charges that the account has incurred since being opened in 2003. I'm going to send this off tomorrow with the £10 fee.

I hope I get your support on this?!! I need it!! I'm not one for writing complaint letters, and I'm a bit worried about claiming back my charges, but the Halifax have gone too far, and they know my situation, so they can't turn around and say I never contacted them

    i have a better idea

go to branch and say you ve been waiting for 7 weeks for your statements and they havent arrived they ll check and say they havent received anything ( obviously ) say you want them to send via email your charges as they have gone over the 40 days

halifax are losing letters left right and centre or misplacing them cos they re that busy, they wont know you havent sent one lol

save yourself a tenner and wasted time and do what ive said and you should get them straight away and for free

blag them as they ll only blag you

That the Halifax is trying to delay giving me statements because the 5 year period ( in scotland) for claiming a lot of my bank charges is going to pass.

Can i claim from the 1st time i ask for my statments or just when i write to the bank asking for my money back?

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks

I had the same problem too, we closed our account 2yrs ago and when I called to ask where the hell our statements are, they replied by telling me "Oh we need to look up archives" I said dont tell lies and get them posted to me. I know you need to keep them for money laudering laws and your telling me it is going to take ages to get them. I think not. 2days later I got them....

Well, the 40 days are up and also the 7 days are up too and the £10 cheque has been cashed. I am getting really annoyed now by Halifax.

So, I need to give them a ring tomorrow. Does anyone know the best number to phone and should I tell them that I am going ahead and submitting a complaint to the information commissioner? Can anyone give me some idea as what to say?

    Thanks
