    Hi
Yes Weve just got back almost £11.000 (including £250 court fee) from the Halifax. We wrote to ask for the money to which we received a reply acknowledging our complaint ????and informing us that they were legally allowed something like 40 days to investigate. I dismissed this and went straight to court using Money claim online. Within the week they acknowledged service of the claim and two and a half weeks later I received a letter stating that without admission they would be paying the full amount into our accounts because it would cost them money to defend the claim. Good Luck to everyone and a great big Thank you to Martin for all of his hard work:T :j :rotfl:

Just wondered if they said that they "intended to defend the claim" and then backed down and paid up
  • I have recently received a letter from Halifax telling me I will be charged £39 for a O/D of £1.99 which is from a direct debit I cancelled Last November with Norwich Union Diect. I cancelled the DD with the co and the bank yet the amount is still taken out of my account and now it has been taken out without the funds available. What do I do in this situation. I need replies before May 8th as this is the date they want the £39!!?
    Thanks.

note; I will be writing to NU again as well but the letters seem to go unnoticed as I never get replies. Their phone centres are no better!

Just contacted Halifax re claim. I am claiming £6405.00 and live in Scotland.

Thay advised that they sent a letter yesterday stating that they have conducted a full investigation and they will not be refunding the charges and that the charges are lawful blah blah blah!

Is this right? Would it be worthwhile passing it to the ombudsman? and does anyone have any success stories going down this route?

Just to add the above amount is the past 5 years without interest! can I add interest on with the FOS?

I sent a request for my bank statements/charges details by recorded delivery on 15th March, and have heard nothing back. I enclosed a cheque for £10 which I am pretty certain has been cashed.

I am about to contact make a complaint via ICO.gov.uk but before I do so would like to try and chase them up over the phone. They have incidentally also added 17% interest from last month, on a previously frozen account (it went into default so I have no card), and I'm sure this is retaliation. If anyone has a phone number which seems to work when chasing up for statements, I'd be grateful. Reading this thread quite a few people seem to have had more success when chasing up by phone. Alternatively any other advice or recommendations? (I am trying 08457 283848 without much luck so far).

    Many thanks

Having said that just now; I just got through! I was told I sent it to the wrong address and it should be Halifax BOS plc, Business Risk/Retail, 10 Carlton Street, Halifax, HX1 2AC, and is taking about 60 days or more due to the "huge response". That is credit card address only, in case anyone is using this address, and they asked if the cheque had been cashed, which it has so presumably even though I sent it to Pitreavie Business park, it has been sent on. I guess I will have to wait 60 days?! But I'm a bit annoyed as they are taking the opportunity to charge me interest in the meantime!

    Thought people should know

    £2500 from HBOS - Accepted -24/04/07

Still no money in my account, they sent me a cheque for the amount despite me asking for it to be placed direct in to my account. They assured me that the money would be in my account on Monday just past. No money in my account Monday, called them Tuesday they advised they credited the closed account and that they would credit my account by close of business on Tuesday. Still no money Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so far.

    I have called 0845 124 1330 option 2

They said the money will def be in my account today

I will keep you all updated

Like holley I've had a notice from the court with the box ticked "I intend to defend all of this claim".

Presumably, I just ignore it, wait until it comes to court, and the Halifax won't actually turn up on the day?
