I am claiming bank charges from the Halifax. My applied charges are £2700.00 over 6 years and they have offered £1200. Is there always a first offer and then negotiation? Do any members have experience of this?0

Hello all, i am so happy.I started MCOL on 03/04/07 and bank acknowledged within 3 days, just received a letter off halifax offering me the full amount of £519.70(it was only £355 to start with) to be paid into my bank within 5 working days:j Just checked my online account now and the money is already in:j Thanks all:j :j
Well done Happy! :T
This is what annoys me with Halifax tho.. one rule for one and another for another. 10 days ago we received an offer which I wasn't happy with and I telephoned and came to an agreement over the phone on two seperate accounts.
The first lady has told me I'll expect my money within 14 days (and that is 14 working days) from the original offer not the new agreed one.
The second lady has told me I'll expect my money with 14 days (and that is 14 ordinary days she said) but that was from the new offer date not the original letter date.
Come on Halifax, we are over the moon that you are refunding our money but please be a bit more unified in your advice.
We will win this! we will!.... and we did! :j

My partner had a partial offer 28 days after 2nd letter , as it was a partial offer and 14 days over requested response time he called and asked could they refund full amount or we would continue with court proceedings.
There reply was write to us with what amount would be acceptable !!!!
Obviusly the full amount.
I returned the offer slip with declined on it attached with a letter stating the full amount or court with interest unless new offer or full refund within 7 days.:T :T :T

Theyw ere adamant that they would not give me interest even though i know ppl have got the interest back. I said i would issue for the interest but she kept saying well do it then
we only got interest back as we'd applied for that in the first place on original letter using MSE calculator. If you've already asked for a figure I don't think you can now add on interest... but I may be wrong. We will win this! we will!.... and we did! :j

Have a read of these recent posts and I'd suggest you get Magatag to negotiate for you

Hi - Am in the process of claiming back charges from HSBC (letter sent 12/4, acknowledged 19/4), but I have a question:
I had an old account with the Halifax which I've been closed precisely because of the exorbitant changes applied.
I have since got a (large!) mortgage with BoS. If I were to claim against the Halifax, would it jeoparidise my mortgage with BoS?
Any comments/advice would be great. Thanks in advance0 -

After seeing Martin on TV and following all his steps on his site. I started the process of reclaiming my bank charges from the Halifax.
The statements came back within time. I worked out they owed me £741.00. After returning the forms and letters they offered me £300. I turned it down and filed an online court action on Moneyclaim. They then offered me £745. Which consisted of bank charges, Court cost (£80) but they had taken off the £75 my bank account was overdrawn when they closed it.
On numerous occaisions i explained that it was in credit when i stopped using it. But As they had taken out 2 lots more bank chages of £35, that had taken me overdrawn. For this reason i rejected their offer and sent the cheque back. I wanted my £745 plus £80 fee for my court application. Just on principle.
Last week they ran out of time to file a defence and i now have won by default. Just have to see if they pay up or i can send in the baliffs :T
Now just about to start on my Halifax Credit card. I have had years of hassle with them. When i was having financial problems afew years back i asked them loads of times for help. but oh no they just kept adding the £25 fees.
So am i right in thinking i can charge for overlimit fees and late payment fees?????
Hope so cos they owe me oh so much and nothing will give me greater pleasure then facing them in court.
Hate these big companies that think they can treat joe public like dirt...
BIG THANKS TO MARTIN.. My hero:money:0
