Be careful of these, I've seen on TV that if you do win, they take a cut!
Personally if you take a good read through these posts with all the info and template letters, i think your best to do it yourself. That way you recieve all YOUR money!!! its not bonus money, that is what YOU have paid in the past remember. Good luck whichever way you do it.

  • halifax sent my hubby a letter last thursday offering him a full refund of charges £1266 but he had already started a claim with mcol which was acknowledged by the bank last friday so he phoned the halifax yesterday and told them he would also like his 120 pound court costs and the lady said no problem but we have nothing on file saying you have started a claim with mcol, got a letter today from mcol stating that the halifax are defending the claim, so what do we do now, wait until we get the money paid into the bank and then cancel the mcol or should he phone the halifax back and ask them whats going on,

    Hi all,
over the weekend we had BBQ and got chatting about Halifax charges, found out my mate has got £680 out of £700 worth of charges back off his own back.
Sent one letter asking for 2 accounts worth of statements, once received he went through it and sent another letter asking for £700 worth of charges to be given back, 3 weeks later he been paid.

He wasnt aware of this site and I have informed him of it. Has anyone else managed this yet?

    Just to update!
Been trying to do this for almost a year now but never got round to it, scared a little in case they remove account etc, but considering that we have our mortgage, insurance, credit cards, saving all with Halifax they would be mad to close us down.

Anyway started to draft letters out and reading through here and decided to ring the customer number Bank Accounts - 08457 20 30 40 to see if I could speed things up and save some cash £5 rather than the £10 cheque system (could be £40 worth of cheques)
Spoke to a nice Scottish Lady and she asked what the reason were for. I said for bank charges back dating 6 years. She said that they have a new process and has sent the email over to the relevant department. I did all 4 bank accounts including my partners.

They said that they will contact me within 48 hours to confirm and have a chat with me, so i will keep posted. I enquired why the change and she mentioned that due to high demands they have changed their procedures a little and now have their own system to deal with reclaiming charges from customer which speeds the process up. (we will have to see from this)

So from what i can gather it can be sorted by the end of the week, so started process off at 21:02 18th Wednesday 2007 and could be sorted by Friday. I am not holding my breath and surely I cant be the first one to be doing this way etc?

I am assuming that they will contact me and try and scare me a little and try bullying tactics. But I really cant see them pulling the plug on my accounts as most of my business goes via them with over £2,000 per month going via their systems and services.

    Keep you guys posted!

hi all , im a bit thick when it comes to all this stuff about reclaiming bank charges :/

At the moment i decided to go through one of those NO WIN NO FEE sites Removed Link- Why give these mugs free advertising i recieved my welcome pack within 2 days of applying and sent off my £10 Postal order for my statements and signed the authority page too ,, sent off last thursday!

Has anybody else gone through this route or am i a first?? CYC only take 20% of my settlement which i am happy with as to me its all bonus money! i.e. money i didnt think i would ever see lol

If you have done this can you tell me what happens now? how long do i wait for a figure from them of what i am owed as the statements get sent to them and not me (but i persume they will give me the correct figure as its more money for them) and any ideas on how long the whole process takes please?

Any help will be very much appreciated :) Thankyou :)

I would not get involved with these "Rip off companies" - It is amazing how these companies pop up and make stupid money for doing nothing.

Lets work this out - 20% is what the charge - I will do it for that too

I have spent no more than £3.00 on recorded postage, a few hrs reading threads on MSe (Free) and then of course a few bits of paper printing out letters what you can download from here for free again.

These companies are just as bad as the bank that charge there customers silly fee's.

    My advice stay well clear

    Hi All
RESULT! An update for all, since my last post on 4th April advising of my offer and me turning it down, and Halifax offering all back to me, I had a further letter to confirm this dated the 8th April, giving them 14 days to deposit in bank. I thought I would phone them this morning to ask if will be in my bank within 14 days as I am off on holiday to my sons wedding on the 18th in Cyprus. A lovely gentleman advised that he would make sure it was in today for me!!! and it is!!! I cannot believe it, just in time.
Total time it has taken from me submitting my statments with schedule of charges on the 12th March to the Halifax is 5 weeks, so hang in there all, they will repay you!!
Thank you Halifax and thank you to Martin's website and all you guys for all your assistance.
Off for a brilliant holiday now.
    :j :T :D

When did you get your first offer? I sent my first letter in and was received on the 27th but I called again today and they still havent look at my compaint.

    Hi
I basically got the same response as you....also she stated that it was noted on file... I wasnt put off by this I just sat and waited until MY final demand date came...When it got to the day for filing court proceedings I phoned and asked if they were prepared to settle this before I take this to the next stage.
She was taken aback and asked how I got that particular number
(01244694695--number for claims to be settled) and I wasnt sure where it would go, but its worth a try...Anyhow she said she would sort it out there and then and I am waiting for an offer letter. But I was prepared to start court proceedings that day if I didnt get anywhere.
As we have all said on here they say things just to try and put you off or stall things...In the end WE will be the ones laughing in their faces.
