halifax bank charges (merged)

Hi Guys,
Thanks to the excellent resources available on this website i have recently followed the steps to claim back my bank charges from Halifax. With interest the total amount came to £1723.40 of which £1549 is the actual charges and the rest being interest.
I have today recieved an offer from Halifax for £1321.00. I don't really want to accept this as i would like the full amount back.
What can shall i do. I'd like to get back all the amount. Do i reply with letter/phone call saying i expect the full amount back or shall i start the court proceedings.
Any help much appreciated.
Thanks0 -

Your claim request has been accepted. The Defendant has 14 days from the date they are served with the claim, to reply.
Hi, I am at roughly the same stage as you. I filed my MCOL on 11/4 and it was deemed served on 16/4 and it says acknowledged so I THINK they have 28days now to put in defence but not sure really.HBoS = £3700 won!
Capital one = £1500 won!

As the offer is less than the amount you have claimed you can write back and accept in part payment without prejudice and will be proceeding to court in so many days for the remainder.0 -

My story so far guys/ladies
Middle of March this year I sent my 1st letter after receiving my statement and adding my charges up to £980 (including interest). Got the usual letter from Halifax blah blah 8 weeks to look into my claim. I then sent a 2nd letter on 1st of this month, they replied promising to get back to me before 3oth of this month. True to their word, received a letter today offering me £629. I will be calling them on Monday to ask for £880 as a final settlement figure.
From my experience, there is no need to fill a court claim as they are most likely to stick to their word. Whether they offer you the full amount is another matter.
Good Luck to the rest of you pursuing your bank charges claims
Looks like I have hit a brick wall with Halifax. Called on Monday and spoke to one of the customer advisors (not the guy dealing with my case) and he refused to up my offer quoting that it was a fair offer. We agreed to disagree and my case worker was going to call me today which never happened.
Should they offer £880, i would bit their hands off, just doubt if they will? I have had all my financial dealings with them - mortgage, Isa, regular saver etc for the last 6 years. Why can't they just pay up now rather making me take them to court? Any advices guys?0 -
Still haven't heard after 40 days as is suggested so I may be a bit soft in giving them another week then I'm going for it. Funny how they've managed to cash my cheque in the meantime.
My calculations are theat they've charged me £140 in the last three months but I'm waiting for figure particularly for 2005 when I was going through a tough time.5th May 1973, 3.31pm Porterfield Heaven:j :j

hi all , im a bit thick when it comes to all this stuff about reclaiming bank charges

At the moment i decided to go through one of those NO WIN NO FEE sites i recieved my welcome pack within 2 days of applying and sent off my £10 Postal order for my statements and signed the authority page too ,, sent off last thursday!
Has anybody else gone through this route or am i a first?? ** only take 20% of my settlement which i am happy with as to me its all bonus money! i.e. money i didnt think i would ever see lol
If you have done this can you tell me what happens now? how long do i wait for a figure from them of what i am owed as the statements get sent to them and not me (but i persume they will give me the correct figure as its more money for them) and any ideas on how long the whole process takes please?
Any help will be very much appreciated
Thankyou

I sent my 1st letter asking for statements back on 25th March - they've yet to cash the cheque so I rang up yesterday and was told that they don't send the statements, that they've streamlined it now and that they just send a list of charges. He did say tho that it could take 4-5 weeks. Has anyone else been told this? Do I just wait it out because until I know how much they owe me there's not much else I can do...

I would start off 2nd letter but dont quote me on that! If you scroll back a few pages you will see that others have asked the same and had some good responses too
As for the statements, They have no right to send a list out, you need to put your foot down and demand em thats what the £10 was so if they aint gonna send you the statements then cancel the cheque!
Thats what i would do.
Btw im not doing this on my own lol i have help from a company that does all the work for me
just a little confused as to how long its going to take me to get a figure of what im owed
 0 -
