I failed to check my account online for about three days and have gone overdrawn by £23.43 in one day only. I have received a letter charging me for one item of £35.65 at £30.00 and a cheque at £411.91 at £30.00 as i didnt have an overdraft facility as I have never needed one. Surely this cant be right and is there anything I can do about it.
But how can they charge me for two items as i only went overdrawn by £23.43 so there must have been enough money for one of the two items. They havnt taken these charges yet so do you think it is worth me phoning them?0 -
yvonneyoung wrote: »Well the banks 8 weeks are up on Monday. I am claiming over £4500 in total over 4 accounts. This morning a letter arrived relating to one of those accounts. I have claimed £326.81 including interest and they have offered me £180. Needless to say I already have my 'thanks but no thanks' letter ready to send off. The other three letters will no doubt arrive on Monday and I have the 'thanks but no thanks' letters ready and waiting to be mailed. I will update you on Monday as to the offers they have made and the progress I am making.
Fingers crossed.
Well the other letters came, and we were actually reasonably happy. They offered a majority of the charges back but no interest. We were going to accept it, then when I phoned to let them know, they offered more money, it was a bit surreal as I really didn't phone to ask for more, I only phoned to tell them to disregard the letter I had sent refusing their £180 offer. In fact over the 4 accounts they originally offered £3200, after my phone call they increased this to £4000, and given that we had originally only claimed £4500 (which included 8% interest) we were obviuosly happy bunnies and accepted. They have said it will take 14 days to deposit to our accounts, which is up tomorrow, but when I phoned to ask if the 14 days was from the first letter or the 2nd amended offer letter, they advised it should be from the first. However they did try and say it would be 14 working days, which it doesn't state in the letter. So I'll wait till tomorrow and if it's not in my account I will phone them again.
Will let you know, but the morale of the story is, no matter what they offer, ask for more, the chances are you'll get it.0 -
Hi
Just spoke to some bloke gave me all the gab, we agreed on a total of £285 and he'll send me a letter stating this, he said it could take up to 14 days but claims are being process quicker.
Does that mean I've got the £285?"I AM THE GATEKEEPER OF MY OWN DESTINY" Nacho Libre

Hi all
Thank you so much to all the people on here. I have spent hours reading and being inspired by you all
Some of the people on here are great and offer so much advice and support all just because they are nice. Its amazing and so touching to sit here and read that people just want to help. In todays society thats a real nice thing.
Just a quick one from myself. I have tried to find the answer but have been reading for ages. There are just so many posts now.
I filed my case on Moneyclaim and the Halifax acknowledged on 22nd march 07. They sent me an offer of all the amount less £75 as my account was overdrawn when they closed it.
In principle i have turned down their offer due to the fact that my account was £2.36 in credit when i stopped using it and they took two lots of charges out sending it into an overdraft. Also they had sent me a cheque in my name. As they have closed my account this was pretty useless as i couldnt cash it.
i just need to know what happens next?
I have sent the cheque back to them and also a letter stating that i want the full amount and notified them why.
Do i now need to contact the court to carry on the action? or do they automatically issue a court date?
Many thanks all

Hi Nats ,
Dont know if this helps but if you go back to main moneysavingexpert.com page , Martin's article about re-claiming bank charges is second on the list. Click on that where the template leters are and below that is article about courts and issue of proceedings I think. Hope this is of help to you. Somebody with more Knowledge on subject may offer advise too , Good Luck xx0
