halifax bank charges (merged)

Hi, first post!
Asked for my statements and received them on the Thursday before Easter. I went through the statements and realised i'd been charged £3009 in charges (just over 3500 with int,!!!!) I sent my claim letter off on Tuesday next day delivery (just don't trust them  )
Today i received the 'give us 8 weeks to investigate' blah blah letter. That's really quick surely.
Thanks for the site, and all the help, knowledge and experiences you all post.
Here's to us getting some money back

They offered me my full amount of money minus interest. I would like the interest as well so i have asked them to get somebody else to review my case and they will be getting back to me later on today.
I told them that i was on DLA back then and they were taking that money and i told they should not have but the person i spoke didn't seem to care less about that.
I did ask my reviewer to write the name of the act down and give it to the person who will be calling me back later.
In my letter they offered me £955 for a £1,555 claim. I have now got them go up to £1,234 but i would like the full figure of £1,555 if i can.
It is just the luck of the draw who you get to speak to on the phone i think.
as far as i can tell the only way to recover interest is via court action...... i dont think anyone has has interest when only dealing with the bank..
I could be wrong though0 -

hi i had same letter back this morning! got letter to send back saying im not willing to wait 8 weeks and on the phone now waiting to see if they will do anything before i send it!! good luck0 -
Kleinsherry, on the original letter the interest is added because this is what a court would add if the claim got that far. In the beginning stages it gives you a bargaining tool for negotiation.0

markymoomoo and fanofmartin thank you for your help. It is not clear sometimes how people have got their money back if through the court or through the normal channels. Some of the stories just state i claimed x amount with interest (or some do not state that) and was offered a full refund all of my charges.
I understand it better now. When they call me back i will try my luck but if i fail i will accept what they offer me and be happy with that.

I sent a letter to Halifax (current account)asking for statements dating back 6 years on 2/4/07. was cheeky and did not enclose a cheque for £10 (and they have not debited my account with £10 either), so I got it free. I gave them the 40 days speal, and today (13/04/07), I received 117 pages of statements in like 26 different envelopes.
Costly thing for Halifax to do, I wonder if their shareholders know they are wasting money on postage like that.
Calculated £226 of charges and £39.36 of interest..........so, on to the next stage.
I have not heard back about the Halifax credit card account yet
Will keep you posted.0 -

hi
Spoke to Halifax on direct dial number to a review manager. I chatted, listened to waffle , luckily I sounded like I knew my stuff thanks to this wonderful site. My claim was for 374.00. Original offer after 8 weeks of patience, 273.00, after phone call i accepted 320. I really need the cash so didn't want to wait another month or so. Money in my account within 14 days they say. Thanks markymoomoo and everyone else for the advice! Good luck to everyone else ! :money: :j0 -
I settled with £1,234 which was all my charges for 6 years without interest. The process just took about a month and a half and never reached the court stage.
I told them that i would have been getting interest on my benefit money and they told me to write to their legal team (at the address given in their offer letter) as a separate complaint and see if can get some of my interest credited back to me. Halifax may grant this to me if they feel that they have acted outside of the law.
I will most probably pursue this but i am not 100% sure on that yet.
Anyway i got my money back which is great.:T0 -
I've had it up to my back teeth with the Halifax bank and i've only just started the procedure.
I sent off the letter requesting the statements for the last 6 years in mid february.
I then recieved a letter from them infomring me that they had recieved my request and the documents would be with me no later than the 10th of April.
My cheque was then cashed on the 29th February and i thought "here we go, won't be long now"
I'm an idiot!!! Still waiting, not heard anything else. I have no contact phone numbers so i can speak to them, nothing. Who sends a letter to a customer with no phone numbers?
Yet again they have taken my money and provided me with no service whatsoever, i was willing to be friendly over all of this and would have agreed
to most things regarding my repayment but i've had enough and i'll take them all the way now, i want every last penny they have taken from me including the interest.
Even though they stated the stuff would be with me no later than the 10th April, i'll now wait my 40 days then start the next step.0 -
Can anyone help I am trying to contact Customer Relations department Halifax regarding my bank charges , however I have tried to call them about 20 times this week and end up being on hold each time for about 20 minutes - half an hour and still not getting through , Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone know of another contact number that can get me through , as after reading previous forums , some of you have said that you get straight through when telephoning , Its really getting frustrating now !!!
