  • Hello there :j

As usual, this is a newbie asking what is probably an asked before newbie question, but until I can work my way around the threads this will be the quickest way to find my answer so please bear with me! :o

I closed a account at Halifax 2 years ago when I bought my house and had enough left to pay off the overdraft. I wanted shut as they were drowing me in charges, and every month the charges made me go more and more over. Since then I have changed my name (got married - not doing a runner!), changed address and changed banks. Now I'm wanting to get the charges back, as it really was £1000s they took off both me and my husband. Can I still do this or is it only for those whos accounts are still open? And will it cause any fuss that I'm at a different address with a different name to that on the account?

Any help from those in the know before I spend my time on something that could come to nothing would be greatly appriciated.

    Love to all

l sent my request for statement along with the £10 fee to hbos, my local branch. l didnt recieve any reply to the effect that they where looking into it. l sent them a reminder at day 33, still no reply. l posted, to local branch, my intention to complain to ICO giving them 7 days to respond. That is up tomorrow. After that l guess its a letter to ICO. Exactly what would the ICO do ?

If you want to refuse the offer and you're not confident talking, don't phone them. You should send a letter and move to the next stage when the time has expired. This also has the bonus of keeping a written record of what's been said should it be needed.
  • :T Thanks very much for that, looking forward to doing battle now!
  • I claimed back £728 in october last year from Halifax. This was for a 7 week period last year when the bank wouldn't help us. Does anyone know if I could still go back 6 years and claim back any other charges or not.

Sorry Julie, whilst you were writing your post I edited my previous one as I realised I was in a Halifax thread!!!

That's defo the address you can use, if you went via your branch they would only forward this on to Trinity Road anyway.
