  • After watching Martin on GMTV i have been inspired to reclaim my bank charges, after phoning Halifax and requesting my 6 years staements (they charged me a fiver for this) 3 weeks later the statements arrived - i was horrified to see that they have charged me over £3,500 in bank charges!!!!!! I am a hard working single parent of three children struggling to provide for my family so i fully intend to take this all the way to Court and get my hard earned money back!!!! Im so furios - i had no idea it would add up to this - in one month they charged me £384.00 in bank charges alone!!!
  • Good luck. I sent the 1st letter off yesterday recorded so we shall se what happens
  • Good luck to you too - posted mine off today recorded delivery - im actually quite looking forward to a court case if they take it that far - they charged me £5 for 69 statements all posted in separate envelopes but £39 for being 70p overdrawn!!!!! let them justify that one!!!!
  • Just received a letter today offering £565 as a "goodwill gesture". They owe me £725 in total, before interest etc. OH and sister both think I should take the money, but I know from reading all this that I should carry on and get full ammount but idea of filing court claim does scare me a bit! Am I wise to turn them down?
    I will be rich :rotfl:

if you do money claim its straight forward its up to you if you take the offer or the amount plus interest .....remember its your money...would you just go in and hand over £100 + as in effect thats what your doing if you take the offer but just go for it when i recieved an offer i never even bothered to reply to it as i wanted the full amount and thats what i got !!!

It really is a personal decision whether you accept a lower offer or not. If you feel you have the confidence to carry on as far as a court claim. You will likely get the full amount+interest+the court fee. I would personally only settle for the full amount, but it's up to you whether you want to carry the claim on or not. Just make sure that the offer doesn't carry any conditions with it if you do accept it.

  • Just worked out the interest and it put the ammount up to 836.54. Think that will pursuade OH to carry on. We would be giving back 271 of our money to Halifax all over again!!

Don't forget that you are only entitled to add the interest once you issue a court claim. It does look like you will get to this stage though.

  • i reclaimed £155 from Halifax on 19th November and got offered £127 this morning. Now, my question is ...of the £155 i claimed, £28 of this is not due to be taken until the end of december, so would one presume that the £127 is the £155 less the £27?i am happy enough to accept their offer, but should i say i am accepting it based on the assumption that the £28 charge will not come out at end of december? or do u think this will come out anyway??what do you think?thanks

Write to them and say you will only accept the £127 without prejudice (this means no conditions attached to it). This leaves you clear to claim for any future charges you get.
