Use the template letter and read both links in my signature carefully.0 -
Well requested bank statements from Halifax and got them back within 2 weeks, calculated £2052 in charges ( without int). Sent request for them to be refunded........nothing. Sent letter to threaten them of court action on 2nd April and got letter this morning about 8 weeks to look into it blah blah.
So I will give them a few extra days because of Easter, and file for court action on the 19th April if I have had no offer by then. Does this sound ok, im new to this!
Thanks in advance

Hey guys,Ive been reading the forum avidly and decided to claim my charges back.
It was only just over £35 with halifax on 1 account I have, and nearly £500 onmyother halifax account (which i havent filed the claim for yet.)
I sent the letter and they responded saying my complaint had been forwarded to their complaints department and it could take up to 10weeks for an answer. Do I file through money claim or what?Im slightly confused as what to do next.
Thanks in advance0 -
Just wanted to know if other people have had the same from Halifax
Both me and my girlfriend sent off letters to halifax on both the same day, both recorded delivery asking for charge details (1st letter) just to say on this I did not put the £10 cheque in on the 1st letter (trying my luck on this) In total we have 3 bank accounts with Halifax - Our own one (so that's 2) and another in in my girlfirends name for our rent which we pay
40 days have now passed and today I got a letter back special delivery with my charges so off I go to reclaim theses back
On the other side my girlfirend got one letter back completely ingoring what we were after saying they would look in to her complaint and get back in next 40 days - er hello Halifax read the letter I want details of my charges - So we sent another letter, recorded and a few days later got the same letter back saying 40 days - Are halifax completely THICK!!!!!
One plus side on one of her accounts they requested £5 for her to get the statament of charges
Now as Halifax have not done what we have requested and ingorned what we were asking for what is our next step and has anyone else had this from Halifax?????:mad:0 -
I have noticed with the Halifax stories I have been reading is that theres no consistancy and the process varies.......how can this be possible for such an official and large organisation.
I have sent last letter before going to court and only just had recognition from them about my claim. They have sent the 8 week we are looking into letter, and have not charged me for statements either. Yet some people have been charged???
Anyway will be starting court action on 19th April if theres no offer. Good luck with your claims sorry I couldnt help x0 -
This is just one of their stalling tactics - don't let it put you off - almost all banks do this.
Ignore their letter and press ahead with your schedule - send your next letter or file with moneyclaim.0 -

You must send the "letter before action" which tells the bank you will be taking them to court in 14 days if they don't respond. You don't just go straight to MCOL. Have a read of Martin's article and you'll get the next template letter there...

Hello everyone,
Have read this thread and have a couple of queries that I need help with.
I am at the stage of issuing court proceedings (time was up on Tuesday, but kept hoping that the Bank would pay up!). Received the standard letter that everyone else is on about saying they will definitely reply before the end of April.
The total amount being claimed is £2754.57 which includes interest. The question I have is if I file a claim for that amount through the court and the bank offer me the amount less the interest before it gets to court is there a chance I will lose the interest, as seems to have been suggested here, and do I have to mention that I want my fees back, or is that taken as read? I have looked to see if this is covered, but I cannot see a definitive answer. (I was confused by swanseastu's post on 31st Jan).
Many thanks in anticipation everyone, this is really a great site and I am forever banging on about it to my friends and relatives!
C an anyone help me with this please?0 -
hi again all and happy easter i will be starting mcol soon if i start the claim which will cost about £120 i think (claiming £1396 not including interest)
if i get a letter back or phone call offering my money back what happens about my court costs do i lose them or can i ask for them also
thanks all0 -
I wrote to the halifax asking for a list of charges made on my account over the last six years using the template letters from this web site.
The response said that they would send copies of statements, but "If you requested information relating to manual intervention on your account, I regret HBOS PLC is under no statutory obligation to record this information and therefore, I am unable to assist further with your request."
Is the bank not required by the data Protection Act to provide a simple list of charges made to my account?0
