  • I recently found this site as i have had enough of the hundreds of pounds i have lost due to obsurd charges, hadnt requested anything yet but happened to be on the phone with Halifax plc disbuting another £39 charge mine seem to have gone up. I stated i had enought and wanted a copy of charges in the last six years they said they would charge me £5 from my account witch they have and that they would send 6 years statemnets with charges highlighted stating this was the best they could do.

She then said that if i was planning to claim them back as this site said that this would be a bad idea as the information this site provides is miss leading and wrong and she knows her job, to the point were if i got as far as court action the halifax plc would make life financially difficult and i would loose out more money that gaining any back.

This to me scarred the hell out of me at first and then thinking about it more it has made me more determinded especially as this seems like a very illegal threat to make.

Ok I just contacted my local court and the lady I spoke to advised me They only deal with claims up to £1500 and I would need a solicitor for anymore?

Is this the case? Really confused just now. Does anyone know of good solicitors that deal with this in the Lanarkshire area?

Have you reached the court stage? If so I would suggest you might be better asking the Financial Ombudsman to take over the case now.

Thanks for that Edinburghlass, No, Im not quite at the court stage yet, They have until the 12th of April to respond, but I want to have everything ready and organised, I know I will more than likely need to take the court route. I'll check out the financial ombudsman.

    Thanks

My parents recently sold thier debt to a trust deed (iva) as my mum lost her job due to ill health and was hammered with bank charges from the halifax. They also had a loan, unsecured, with the halifax and when they told them were going to trust deed the Halifax said they would go after thier house, the bank always got thier money and they would not agree to the trust deed. Turns out they did agree to it, but the bank still have not closed thier bank account, which is also in the trust deed and are still putting charges on it...7 months later. It's appalling the banks get away with talking to thier customers like this.

I also have a £450 o/d on my current a/c with Halifax, I am not using the a/c just gradually paying off the o/d (not to accrue anymore charges) and a few days ago I recieved a phonecall from them requesting my cheque book and card back, I told them no, I was still paying funds into the a/c and they had no grounds to close it and the girl I spoke to backed down very quickly, I can only assume they recieved my letter requesting my charges to be refunded.

They rec'd my acceptance letter on 19th and I still haven't rec'd anything, I have rang almost everyday and they keep saying it is in the system, very frustrating!! Will let you know when i receive anything
  • Hello. I have sent the first letter to Halifax and recieved just their usual "we are saddened"...blah blah. They want 8 weeks to sort the complaint out. I have sent them another letter 20 days after the first and no reply yet from them. The bank seems to be digging in their heels on these.

Should I wait until the next letter comes before taking them to court. I suppose I have no choice.

I managed to get the first couple of charges reclaimed over the phone - but this time they said it was becoming a habit and they could not return the funds.

Should a employee of the bank speak to you like that? Sounds very barclayish to me. You could get a nice tidy sum by complaining to the bank or even FSA about the tone of the bank's very thinly veiled threat.

Once my wife was treated harshly and lied to by a BT call centre employee - we got six months free line rental.
