halifax bank charges (merged)
Comments

Don't know the answer but how much do halifax charge for the statements and who did you make the cheque out to?
Thanks

I typed out my letters as I have a few accounts (cardcash, current&visa)
my partner has one (cardcash)
posted them all on the same day, with the cheques attatched,
3 days later we got the cheques back saying there was no charge at this time and that it was being passed to the dept thats dealing with it
2 days later my partner gets all his statements through so I figured mine would be getting dealt with and should receive it 2moro, 5days later I got a letter saying i am going to be getting charged £5 for my cardcash and current account, they havent received my visa one yet (no cheque returned, but not been cashed either)
why have I been charged and yet my partner has been with the bank the same length of time as myself
I can't figure out this!
has anyone else been in this situation ?0 -
I just applied for "judgement by default" as the time was up on my MCOL (they had acknowledged but did not put in a defence on time)
I'm guessing I just need to wait now, although I've heard that if they put in a defence in the next couple of days then that will override my filing for judgement which seems a bit odd (if they missed the date then they should be held to it)
Any ideas?

Letter from Halifax received today
Dear Mr and Mrs Phingers
I have received and have been dealing with the proceedings, which you have issued against Halifax plc in the xxxx County Court.
Your claim relates to bank charges debited to your current account. These charges were debited to your account in accordance with the account terms and conditions, which you agreed to accept, and by which you are bound.
I have returned the form of Acknowledgement of Service to the xxxx County Court indicating that Halifax intends to defend your claim. However, on a purely commercial basis, it will cost Halifax money to defend your claim in terms of the legal costs that will be incurred. It is unlkely that Halifax will be able to recover these costs (even if the bank wins) because your claim will be probably allocated to the small claims track, in which costs are not generally allowed.
For this reason, but without admission of liability, Halifax is willing to reimburse £229 in respect of the bank charges incurred. The Halifax will also reimburse £30 in respect of the Court fee. This amounts to £259 which will be credited to xxxxxxxx within the next 5 working days.
We are keen to help you avoid any unnecessary charges in the future by providing various ways to keep track of your account. You can do this via telephone banking on 08457 20 30 40, online banking (https://www.halifax.co.uk) or by obtaining a mini statement at our cash machines. You can also contact one of our banking advisers at any of our branches.
Ultimately it is your responsibilty to manage your account. If you incur any future charges the Halifax reserves the right to withdraw your banking facilities; full details are explained in the terms and conditions of the account. If you would like to discuss this, please contact our Customer Relations department on 08457 25 35 19 option 2.
Yours sincerely

I got charged £5 for my current account and £10 for my bill payment account, the only difference being that the current account is on the new Halifax system, and the bill payment account is on the old Bank of Scotland system.

Hi all,
first post!!!
I too am claiming all my unfair charges from Halifax and have got to the stage of getting a reply from the request for repayment of charges. I have nearly 2k of charges and 2.5k with interest....Now they have replied to my letter with the standard 'we have 8 weeks to investigate, but will try to do it in 4 weeks', milarky....So as I have actually had a reply, (be it an unaccepable time frame), I am now drafting the template for court action within 14 days if no satisfactory resolution is reached. Which I will send guaranteed delivery. The reason for this is because...My first letter requesting statements was sent 1st class recorded and reached its destination the next day no trouble, (Halifax head office). But it was not answered, it took a phone call to get the ball rolling and I got my statements soon after, (each in it's own envelope, What an eco foopar by Halifax), anyhow I got them, worked out charges and interest, (via the calculator on this site), then sent the next letter asking for refund on 19-03-07 via 1st class recorded delivery to Halifax head office again. Now some time later and nothing on track and trace, and no reply.....
a few phone calls later to Royal mail and it turns out that recorded delivery is not guaranteed and can turn up whenever, and their is nothing you can do about it but wait.......I was furious, I'd just sent my claim for charges and it was lost in postal space....Luckily I got a reply from Halifax with the 8 weeks milarky sent from Customer relations. Still no track and trace on RM website...
I know your thinking why the ranter about post...well try and send it garenteed delivery if you can, that way it won't get lost in postal space and you'll have a better time frame to work from. I am still going to send my letters to the head office because you can't get a signature out of a PO box, which is what customer relations provide.
Anyhow I wish you all luck and will let you know what happens.....
Oh yea this to SPARKY, it's £10 max for requesting statements mate and make cheque out to Halifax Plc, ( I actually sent a postal order, but it's up to you).
Hope this helps and good luck.......

I telephoned the bank yesterday and paid the charges straight from my account, how long do you think it will take for them to post the charges out to me, Still no sign of my visa letter, I get the feeling they are holding back on this one as since ive wrote away they have reduced my credit limit from 3400 to 3050 knowing there is 3040 in my account which means i will be over my limit soon and more charges
are they allowed to do this? and can i claim these back as they will be after the date on my letter0 -
Well i have just filed my MCOL, my charges were only £355 but now with intrest and court fee's that gone up tp £519.70.:T I just hope i win now:eek:0

I kept the fax transmission receipt then rang the bank to ask if they had received my claim. They said that no fax had been received although after quoting the receipt time and fax number to them they suddenly found a copy of my claim and promtly passed it on to the correct department.
Both banks initially denied receipt but when i challenged them with eveidence that they did they both passed my claim to the relevent department.
20 mins later I got a call from the claims department saying that they had received my claim and would be in touch when they had completed thier investigation.
If you don't want to use recorded or special delivery mail then this is a quicker and cheaper way to submit a claim.
The fax number for Halifax Customer relations is: 08451281385, make sure to keep the confirmation that the fax has been sent and phone to make sure they have received it.0 -
