halifax bank charges (merged)

Just thought some of you might be interested, I FAXED my claim to two banks RBS & HBOS. I kept the fax transmission receipt then rang the bank to ask if they had received my claim. They said that no fax had been received although after quoting the receipt time and fax number to them they suddenly found a copy of my claim and promtly passed it on to the correct department.
Both banks initially denied receipt but when i challenged them with eveidence that they did they both passed my claim to the relevent department.
20 mins later I got a call from the claims department saying that they had received my claim and would be in touch when they had completed thier investigation.
If you don't want to use recorded or special delivery mail then this is a quicker and cheaper way to submit a claim.0 -
it wont make any difference. we threatened court action and it did not budge them, it is a case of we will pay when we are ready. We have now started court proceeding after giving them an extra two weeks to consider settling with us.0

I put my claim in on 15th February 2007 for £5,600 and received a letter back saying they had 8 weeks to respond fully, but would respond within 4 weeks with an update, I received a letter on 16th March 2007 saying they were still dealing with it and would respond in full by 16th April 2007, can anyone give me a clue what to expect from their response, My head is saying that they will offer £3,500 or nothing. Anyone else received anything similar and managed to get the whole charges refunded??
Regards

Likewise.
I asked for £991 initially (including interest), and after a few letters I managed to get a £500 offer out of them. However, we declined this and asked for £800 settlement.
No reply from that letter, so filed MCOL today for £1,120 all in including fees. They should have accepted the £800 but their loss. :rotfl:
We don't really 'need' the money and most will be given to charity, but its the principle I'm after. Becasue we don't need the money we'll just hold out and see how far the case goes in the court system before they offer us the full amount.
Incidently my boyfriend is a Lawyer specialising in Contract Law and his degree revolves around Finance law, so he's been a help :A0 -
well the 7 days has gone and past so do i go to the court stage next or give them a few more days i called them and they said that they have 40 days to reply to me as they have a backlog of claims if so what part of martins letters do i use for the court claim .Thanks0

well waited for some help but non was offered again:o I called the customer services number and explained that i had sent letters etc, spoke to a very nice lady who put me on hold then transfered me to another department which were dealing with my case, explained again this time to a man who asked me who had signed the letter that i received turning my claim down,i told him who it was and i told me that he is very sorry and that i should not have received that letter
, i then go on to tell him that 14 days were up and that i am gunna start court action for him then to tell me that he needs a few weeks to look at my case,i said thanks but you have already had two weeks,so now he has wriiten on my file that i am starting court action but to be honest i cant really afford the £50 it's going to cost me so i am hoping the fact that i told him over the phone that i taking them to court will push them into sending me an offer, well here's hoping:eek:
I hate to disallusion you but I did that a fortnight ago (mine is going to cost 240.00 and simply cannot afford it)... I'm still waiting :-(We will win this! we will!.... and we did! :j0 -
My moneyclaim online against Halifax/Bank of Scotland was deemed to have been served from the "27th February", they acknowledged and it says they have 28 days from the date it was served, so what day would this work out to?
I'm guessing the 28th March (tomorrow) or can I put this through today? Does the day the papers are served count as one of those days or? Would appreciate any help you can give0 -

I used the telephone banking service, the branch number I have just puts you through to the telephone banking service. You coulkd also pop into the branch and make a request there. "I'm Just A Demin Boy"

Ive accepted offer of settlement from Bank of Scotland - anyone know how long they take to pay out. It says in the letter within 14 days.
Kenny
From what I have learnt here they will take near the full 14 days, which is their perogative.
Congratulations on getting the offer, May I ask how long the process took?

My claim was acknowledged by the Halifax on the 12th March and I received a letter from the court which I read as saying that the Halifax will be defending against me...Is this just standard practise? Surely they are not going to defend a piddling £250 are they? Any action I should be taking or do I wait the 28 days then push for settlement? TYIA
I just had a quick look at the success stories thread and there is quite a few recent sucesses at this stage, with HBOS.
It appears to be quite common that the bank starts to defend the claim then at the last minute offers a settlement. I do not think that you should be unduly worried about this, but it would be nice if you keep us informed about what happens.
Thanks
