halifax bank charges (merged)

Hiya
We were claiming £407 in charges. WE received a letter on Saturday saying they will send us a cheque (closed joint account) for £263.
Do you think this is reasonable and due to the new laws about to come in to force or should I write back to them requesting the full amount?
Thanks in advance

I was under the impression they reviewed this from 1st April?
How do I go about claiming the full amount? Nothing was mentioned in the letter why they were offereing us the smaller amount......It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice0 -

Anyone offer any advice? We sent 2 letters and 2 cheques (one for a closed current account and one for a credit card account) on 26th February. The letters were signed for on 1st March, both were sent to the addresses given on here. However we have heard nothing and the cheques haven't been cashed. What can we do and will the new law affect us?
Thanks0 -
Well, 40 days was up today - in real days, not business days. The cheque was cashed on 28 Feb.
Advice anyone? Should I call and hassle? Will they say 40 days from cashing it?
Thanks in advance0 -

help:eek: just received a letter off halifax on the 14 day deadline. The letter states that they are unable to refund the charges because there is no error on the part of halifax
Right so do i now take them to court? or do you think its worth a go at phoning them?
Please someone advise me
well waited for some help but non was offered again:o I called the customer services number and explained that i had sent letters etc, spoke to a very nice lady who put me on hold then transfered me to another department which were dealing with my case, explained again this time to a man who asked me who had signed the letter that i received turning my claim down,i told him who it was and i told me that he is very sorry and that i should not have received that letter
, i then go on to tell him that 14 days were up and that i am gunna start court action for him then to tell me that he needs a few weeks to look at my case,i said thanks but you have already had two weeks,so now he has wriiten on my file that i am starting court action but to be honest i cant really afford the £50 it's going to cost me so i am hoping the fact that i told him over the phone that i taking them to court will push them into sending me an offer, well here's hoping:eek: 0 -
