AHMTHSSN wrote:Hi All,
I am about to try and reclaim charges for my Halifax current account (£192)and Halifax credit card (waiting for statements).
I hope this doesnt sound like a silly question but do I make the claim seperately for each account or do I combine ALL the charges for both accounts together.
Thanks
personally id do them seperately as it would be two different departments you would be dealing with
ella - is that the only charge hes had in the last 6 months?

I wasn't sure but I think it will be better to do them seperately.
I'll post here when I get a reply from them.0 -
I am in two minds about claiming from halifax, which is weird because its the bank i'm more sure I am in the right with.
The short version is I got suckered by help the aged and set up a £5 direct debit. But this was around the time I stopped using my account and had a balance of 0. The thing about my account is that it was a cash account and therefore in the terms and conditions they said they would bounce payment or whateevr if i couldn't pay, rather than making me go into overdraft/charge me.
Anyway cue 5months later when I finally recieve a bunch of statements at the same time, and I owe them a good few hundred quid. for going into unautherised overdraft/bouncing direct debit x every month since the 1st statement.
However they stopped sending me letters and never tried to claim it back (this was about a year or so ago) My problem is, do I remind them I exist and start claiming my money back, or just leave it and not touch the account again (as ive been doing)

Sent my letter off yesterday asking for list of charges under the Data Protection Act. As i believe they have 40 days and not 40 banking days, as a good will gesture to my bank i think i will allow them a few extra days due to Christmas and NewYear as im in a good mood. After that, i want every penny they have took off me.
Incidentally, Halifax put a block on my banking as they say they had mail returned to them saying 'No longer at this address'.. Apparently for security reasons. All very good i thought that at least my account is secure except they would not budge when i could not produce photo id having lost my passport and by chance tried to draw money from a cash machine which was successful.
Walked into the bank for the second time still without passport. Still would not budge. I asked why, If for security seasons do they need my passport to prove my identity when i have numerous statments obviously stating my address and that im recieving mail ok. They answered it is standard procedure to make sure im who i say i am and that nobody else is using my account.
Guess what?? They could not answer me when i turned around and said their security procedure is flawed as i have just withdrawn £250 from my account.
Thats not very secure i added.
Dozy women did not know what to say. As im in the process of transferring DD's and Salary over to another account i might just complain that they have compromised the security of my account
Thanks to MSE for opening my eyes to the big bad world of being ripped off and how to stop it.:T0 -
Sent my first letter on 1st December and have reached agreement today for 90% of my claim (£3000).

Woo hoo!
Thanks to this site for all the info and help. Now going to write requesting Barclays Statements for past 6 years to see what scary figure that gives me!

Hello.
Firstly, I apologise if this question has been answered before in any previous posts but I was wondering if anyone knew if you are still eligible to claim back bank charges even though the account has been closed?
I closed my current account with the Halifax approximately 1 year to 2 years ago and had been charged a few times with them and would relish the opportunity to claim back those charges.
Any help or advice would be extremely welcome.
Many thanks. :beer:0 -
Absolutely. Go for it.
You'll be needing all the information they have about you. A subject Access request -SAR under the Data Protection Act is stage one. You'll find the templates and information you need on https://www.consumeractiongroup.com or the article on here by martin.0 -
Hi
I am pretty new to all this and was hoping someone could advice me please.
I have had my statements back from Halifax today but all the statements say is 'Charges as Notified' with the amounts next to it between £30 and £120. Can I still claim or do I need to find out what these charges are for? I spoke to someone at Halifax who said that for a fee of £5, which I paid over the phone, they would send me a list of what these charges are for but it will be in their own time. I asked approx how long and she said it will be at least a few weeks.
Is there anything more I can do?
Thanks0 -
You need to send the 1st letter asking for all the information held, not statements and enclose the £5 they ask and give them 40 days to provide the information, in other words your time scale not theirs.0

Hi thanks for getting back. I have already paid the £10 DPA letter requesting all information held on me (I got it from this site) about 3 weeks ago and this is what came back. The further £5 has been taken from my account over the phone already earlier today. Do I send a letter saying that they now have whats left of the 40 days left or give them a further 40 days notice?
Thanks for your help.0
