i am currently waiting for halifax to pay me £2600 in my bank, they said it would be 14 day, it has now passed and i have rand them 3 times to ask where my money is they said it would be in on the 20th, still not in, so i rang them again they now saying they are behind and it will be a few days late. they said it would be in friday close of play.
Just keep on the phone to them and kick off if you can with a manager...x0 -
Sent my letter reclaiming my charges today.
I'm sure this info may be posted elsewhere, but for those who have not come across it-
You can telephone the Halifax on 08456 037923 and request your statements. There is no need to send a letter requesting these. Plus, they only charge a fiver so saves on that ten quid cheque you may have posted with your statements request.
Surprisingly, the girl I spoke to was very helpful, and I received my statements yesterday after only 3-4 working days.
Now for my query- I am based in N.East England, but my 'home' branch is still in N. Ireland- if my particular case progresses to the court stage, will it be dealt with in England (as I, the plaintiff am based there) or will it be dealt with by N.Irish courts? I ask, because the difference in maximum amount entitled to claim in the small claims courts of each jurusdiction differs greatly.
Thanks for the help!!0 -
This is just a quick question for fellow board members. Tomorrow is the 14th day after sending the request for a refund of my charges. What would you say is the best approach.
1) Give them a call and see if they will settle over the phone as has happened in many cases.
2) Send them the template letter requesting a settlement within 14 days to avoid court action.
3) Going straight to filing a court claim.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
You must give the bank 14 days notice that you are taking them to court, don't just go straight to filing a court claim.0 -
Just off to the post office to send my request for my charges £4364.73 with interest (recorded of course) then sit and wait ...didnt take too long to work out or print off x2 for my records .. good luck to everyone ...

Provided you have an English address for your bank and as you live in England you can go through the English court system.0 -
Hi guys,
I just got a phone call from Halifax Customer Service. They have just agreed to pay out £3,205. I was claiming £3,275. Not going to quibble about £70 - think I might have actually miscounted anyway ;0)
The thing is, when they guy phoned up at first he started talking about the OFT and credit card charge "ruling" and how they were going to come up with a figure of "£12 or a bit higher" as legitimate for bank charges.
I then got:
"Because of this we're obviously not going to give you the full amount. We could just sit tight and wait for the OFT but we want to get this settled now so lets see if we can come up with a compromise. How much would you be prepared to accept?"
I said I'd accept the full amount please otherwise they'd be liable for interest and for court costs when I took them to court, which I would be doing straight away.
He went off to "speak to his manager" for like 30 seconds and then came back and agreed to pay me the full amount.
So don't let them pressure you over the phone into taking less!0 -
Hi,
I have received my first refusal letter from the Halifax Credit card stating it is lawful due to the terms and conditions of the contract i signed. Is my next step to send the letter again giving them 14 days or should I send them the letter for the court? I am also in the same position with American Express.
The credit card companies are proving more difficult than the banks!

I sent Halifax a letter requesting my statements but did not enclose any money. They sent them to me for free. I originally wanted to claim £470 but they've added more charges so they now owe me approx £570. I have asked for my money back and they have told me they have 8 weeks to investigate and get back to me. Is this correct? I would have thought they'd give me an answer much sooner. The longer they take, the amount they owe me just keeps getting larger. Can anyone help me on this?0
