when u are requesting the money back, do u send the sctual statements or can i just write a list of them on my letter thenks?

With my claim I sent the covering letter quoting all the legal stuff and enclosed photocopies of the statements with the charges highlighted so there can be no arguing over the amount claimed.

You should do a list/spreadsheet with each charge, with the date the charge was taken and description and not send highlighted statements. This list will form part of your defence should it reach this stage. Do several copies of this at it may well be requested again at a later stage.

Use the Interest Calculator as this works out the interest on each charge at the date it was taken as a charge taken in 2001 will incur more interest than a charge taken in 2007.

I too have had the standard response from Halifax, " Please note the complaint handling rules set by our regulator, the financial services authority, gives us 8 weeks to investigate and respond to complaints."

Do you allow them this time or stick to the 14 days as specifically stated in my first letter to them?

    Thanks
    Helen

bitza81, what allowances did they ever make to you? Stick to YOUR timeframe.

hi all does anyone know what the interest on £1396 am unable to use the interest calculator at the minute
would be grateful if anyone could help

It ain't that easy! You have to input each individual charge in the interest calculator with the date it incurred, you can't just input the total amount because you would lose out on interest and it wouldn't be correct.

You send it to the branch where your account is held and they pass it on to the relevant department.

With regard to not sending away statements, although Martin's step by step guide doesn't mention anything about sending them away, I used the letter templates from the BBC's Money Programme site because the wording on them seemed a little more "legal" and that site recommends sending highlighted statements with your claim.

As long as they are presented with document evidence of what you're claiming I don't suppose it really matters.

    Bank: Halifax
    Amount Reclaimed: £358
    Amount they paid: £358
I simply write a letter and they paid up within a month. Couldn't have been much easier!
    Hi,
Congrats on your successes with Halifax.
I am just about to send my second letter off now. Can you advise me where the best place is to send the actual 'request for reinbursement' letter to. Is it just customer services?
    Thanks

    Halifax Bank

    Amount Claimed £712
    Amount Paid £712

    Halifax Visa

    Amount claimed £680
    Amount paid £680

Sent initial letters and received standad "get lost" responses from both declining to refund anything.

Send second letters out asking for interest as well. Received partial offers of roughly half the amounts claimed.

Rejected both offers and threatened legal action to include interest and Court costs.

Have received offers of full settlement.

My advice would be stick to your guns and don't back down. I'm off after Barclaycard now and a few others....

BIG THANKS TO MARTIN AND HIS TEAM as I would not have received this back without this website!! :A :rotfl:
    Hi,
I have a Halifax visa also. Were you able to claim back the charges that were £12 only?
    Thanks,
