Hi all
Ive just got to the 14 days nearly up stage to filing court papers on halifax. I'm trying to claim back £1745.00 from them (including interest).. would I be correct in offering to reduce my interest fees down by 50%..? this may make them decide to offer me money before issuing court papers to them.. any help would be appreciated
Hi karen
It's entirely up to you if you wish to try and 'haggle' with them.
But I would suggest that seeing as though you've got to this stage they probably won't budge.
You can always try, but personally I would crack on with the next stage - that's just me though!!
Regards

Having sent the Halifax my claim 12 days ago, I have just received a reply thanking me for my complaint and stating that the FSA allows them up to 8 wks to investigate and respond. I presume this is just another tactic??? will someone please confirm that this is the case and that I should now continue with court action.
Thank you in advance

I had the same situation with the Nationwide.
Write to the Data Protection address of the bank concerned stating as many details as possible, for example: your date of birth, what type of account it was, the last address the account was held at, the approximate date it was closed etc etc.
They should be able to track the account down.

thanks underground for your reply, really appreciated.. Ive heard nothing from them, but did ring 08457 203040 today and spoke today to someone who seemed to be helpful.. she said that they would be responding within the 14 days.. am I right in thinking though that they are not responsible for paying the interest unless it goes to court?..0 -

Yes that's right. Interest is only payable once you reach the court stage. It is statutory interest which is awarded by the court.
