hi miss phoenix. im new on here too and have just read your quote. I have had so many problems with the halifax over the last few years and have always found them to be very unhelpful and sometimes downright rude. they have taken money from another account of mine to offset my overdraft( this money being my child benefit) and have taken money from my current account to pay my visa, making my account even further overdrawn. A friend of mine claimed back all her bank charges from the halifax last month and i decided to follow suit. to date i have paid over £4,200.00 in charges over the last six years and i have claimed back £4,700.32 to include interest. i sent off the letter from martins moneytips and had a reply within 14 days saying they were looking into my situation. Yesterday i received a telephone call from the Halifax and i was offered £2,000.00 as an act of goodwill and in full andfinal settlement. This does not even represent 50% of what ive paid but im a little bit nervous about declining their offer, but i think for them to offer anything means that they must realise they are in the wrong so i will write and tell them i want another offer. i hope you get all your charges back and we can show them that we are not just the little people that can be trampled on.
DONT SETTLE FOR LESS THAN HALF THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU COULD DO WITH YOUR MONEY???????????/ WHY SHOULD THEY KEEP HALF TAKE IT TO COURT AND GET YOUR FULL MONEY BACK
  • This template suggests that we should include an actual breakdown of all the charges.

Is this really necessary? I have seen a template that was originally on the Daily Mail site that does not state that we need to do this.

I would rather not have to write this all up if i do not have to. Will it be ok if i do not list a complete breakdown of the charges but just include the figure instead?

I was told to send my 2nd letter to this address-
halifax customer care trinity rd halifax west yorkshire HX1 2RG which is different from the Leeds address that some people have posted.
    Thanks

The Customer Relations Department in Leeds is the Department that are actually dealing with the reclaiming of Bank Charges. You can sent your initial letter to Trinity Road, but they will just forward it to Leeds.

I did enclose a list of all the charges and the dates they were incurred. I done it this way to try to reduce the amount of time I'd have to wait. Didn't want them to write back to me and say 'what charges are you relating to'.
  • I am claiming back bank charges for the last six years from The Bank Of Scotland. Do the scottish rules or 5 years apply?(I live in England)

from what I can muster it looks like if ye stay in England then thats where ye claim fae hen, good luck sweetheart !!!!!!!!!!!
  • I got a letter this morning from the Halifax telling me their sorry about my complaint about my bank charges and that they have 8 weeks to investigate. Thing is. technically I havent made a complaint yet, all I sent them was the £10 for a list of my bank charges, which I still dont have!!! I sent them a letter last week telling them that they had until 27th March to send me details of my charges, as they told me on the phone that they had 40 days from when the cheque was cashed, not 40 days from when I sent the letter, they cashed the cheque some 19 days after the letter was sent.

Should I send them another letter?? What next ??
  • Help!

Im nearly there except for the details of the court that I am supposed to add in to the second letter? White courts name am I supposed to use? can anyone shed any light on this for me?

    Thanks

  • Also - sorry for being a nuisance folks, but I dont want to get this wrong, thats all.... and all these posts are confusing me (Im just a simple creature really)

Do I send the letter to the bank saying threatening with the court - then if I dont hear from them use the moneywise website or go to the court?!

I just need someone to tell me each step in an idiotproof way...

  • Hi, just thought i should let everyone know that im still having problems requesting my bank statements, have tried twice by sending letter via recorded delievery to the trinity road address. Both have failed to arrive.
Gave up begining of last week and hand delievered another letter to my local branch, which they gave me a reciept for. Do you think i should ring halifax to make sure the request is going through as the cheque has still not been cashed yet?
    Thanks
