    Hi

I wish to claim monies back from the Halifax however I closed the account down about 2 years ago. I do not have any statements or my bank cards so I do not have my account number. Can anyone advise how I would be able to obtain these details so I can obtain my statements? I have also moved address from when I was with the Halifax as well!!

    Thanks

After reading all of your posts, I decided to take the plunge with the Halifax! Got my statements through yesterday, so will be sending my claim letter off this weekend :) going to try it with interest :undecided

Looks like I need to expect a load of excuses back judging by the posts!

Thanks to all the people who have advised on here, it's been very useful x

Lodged a moneyclaim on the 19th Feb, full amount offered yesterday. Signed off yesterday. The letter said 14 days for the refund! I am happy with that. Total process 3 weeks exactly including requesting statements.

HBOS have just paid up £5377 two days before their 28 days (they acknowledged on MCOL) was up. They didn't write or call, just credited my account.

So the advice is, with Halifax/Bank of Scotland, don't wait for the post or the phone call, try checking your account online.

Very happy bunny. Good luck to all of you HBOS customers...

    that's good to hear.

Hope that I am so lucky!

(They didn't threaten to close your account did they?)

I sent in my request to the Halifax detailing how much I wanted back form them. I got a letter back saying they would deal with it within 4 weeks, which would have been by the 5th March. The other day I got a letter from them saying sorry I hadn't had a response, I would have one by the 27th March.

Can they do this? It means it will have taken them 7 weeks to decide whether they will give me my money back. Are they just trying to buy time until the Financial Ombudsman's report in April?

Ignore their deadlines. Use the deadlines in the letters. Its a delaying tactic they use to put people off/waiting for the OFT report

You can't claim the interest you pay on your overdraft. The interest Martin talks about is the interest on the bank charges you are claiming. Please read Martin's article and listen to the audio file within the article. There is also a post regarding interest in the Reclaim Help Thread, links in my signature.

Thanks I spent 4 hrs reading all the post on this subject and fully understand now. :money:
