    Im not really mad...
  • Hi - I'm a first time poster here.

I sent my first letter to the Halifax just over two weeks ago. The £10 cheque is yet to be cashed and I'm assuming they have done nothing regarding my enquiry yet.

My wife sent her letter to the Halifax, different branch, only a week ago and got a curious reply today:

"As you are asking for something specific this would normally be dealt with as an 'informal' request and I am therefore returning your cheque.

In respect of your request for duplicate statements, I have ordered these to be issued to you ASAP. There is normally a charge of £5 for duplicate statements, however on this occasion the information will be provided free of charge.

You will find enclosed a copy of our leaflet explaining our complaint procedures.

Should any of your concerns remain unresolved please let me know what you'd like me to do to put matters right. We are keen to resolve your concerns, if we are unable to do so we'll provide you with details of how you can contact the Financial Ombudsman Service for help. If I don't hear from you in the next eight weeks I will assume you are happy.

If you would like to discuss your concerns, please telephone me on 08457 394959."

Sorry I haven't got through reading ALL the pages on here to see if anyone else had this response.

Is it that they are being cunning and stringing her along for 8 weeks?

Can anyone advise? This sounds unusual to what others have encountered.

    Many thanks

    Stu
  • This is a standard letter. Once you get the statement/information required just start the claim.
  • Thanks. It just sounds odd that you have to pay £10 to get the info, but they are offering it for free with the cheque returned.

You've got to be suspicious with them, I reckon.
  • I disagree actually, they are just trying to handle the mountain of claims quickly! The banks read the newspapers and watch the TV too, they even view MSE :)
  • Oh well. I suppose I'm expecting the worst.

    Thanks for your advice.
  • Hi

  • Hello,

Can someone help me please. I sent off my letter to Halifax with the charges listed, giving them 14 days to respond. I have received a letter today saying that for them to investigate the charges the timescale will be 8 weeks and that they might write to me after 4 weeks to update me of the process. What do I do now, as Martin has written all answers to outcomes there is nothing there for people who have received a letter like mine. Or, if there is please advise what I should do. I feel that after 14 days I should be taking it further but with there reponse Im not sure where I stand. Please, please help.

    Thanks
