Just wanted to tell you my update so far.

Followed all the steps from asking for my statements to asking them to pay me my money back and threatening them with court. Halifax owe me £2788.29 without interest. never got a reply from them, then i rang them 2 times asking why they have not replied when i gave tham 14 days, they said they had 8 weeks to respond to my complaint. Which would of made it the 13th March. Yesterday got a letter from them (shock) refunding me £2383.00. this is a couple of hundred short for what i asked for. i will be phoneing them on monday to ask why i havent got the full amount. but im really considering taking what they have offered me.

I rang the bank to ask why they offered smaller then i asked for, After arguing with them for a few minutes they came back and offered me £2500, i said no and pushed for £2600. lol... i have sent a letter to accept there offer. hopefully i should receive payment in 14 days
Bank Charges refunded from Halifax £2600
Bank Charges refunded from halifax joint account £554
Credit Card Charges refunded £300 plus interest
I'm proud to be dealing with debt!!! :T
  • Situation so far with me. Im claiming £590.43 from HBOS (originally Bank of Scotland)

Sent 1st letter to HBOS (local branch) 4 December
Received letter saying they were looking into it 3 January
    Received statements 5 January
    Sent 2nd letter 5 January
Received another letter from bank 9 January
    Sent 3rd letter 25 January
Phoned and chased them up 1 February
Received another letter (with wrong acc no) 3 February
Called bank - too long a waiting time 7 February
Sent claim to local court 8 February
Claim sent back as not filled out right 14 February
Phoned bank again - not interested 19 February
Sent properly filled out claim and cheque for £39 20 February
Court date set for April 23 February

A lot of my friends at work have had their money either actioned over the telephone or right at the start of these procedures. Not me though. Im going all the way unfortunately. So hopefully ill get there soon otherwise Ill be the first one the banks take to court.

    UPDATE 7.3.07

Received letter from HBOS yesterday offering me £380 which will go in automatically to my account within 14 days. Court date is set anyway so i might as well go for the whole £590. Better call bank tomorrow and hopefully they might just sort it out over the phone.

    UPDATE 12.3.07

Called bank to say would not be accepting their offer. They asked what I would accept and I said no less than £500. This was offically authorised. Yipee!!!!! Only £90 less than orginal quote. Very happy.
  • Sent Halifax a request for a list of my bank charges, a week past Friday there. How long does Halifax usually take ??

Hi just thought I would mention I called BoS the other day and asked about bank charges. Lady said she had an email about it and advised me that I had to write in with a cheque for £10. Anyway forgot the address and called back a few minutes ago asking for the address I should write to regarding a complaint about bank charges. Lady asked if it was long term bank charges and when I said yes she said the starting point should be copy statements. She said she could order them up for me over the phone and went ahead and processed the request. I'll check tomorrow to make sure the request has gone through but for others told to send a cheque it may be worthwhile calling back and trying again.
  • We sent a request over 2 weeks ago with postal order...hubby phoned today to check on status and they have claimed they have not received a letter!
We arranged to get them to order them on the phone and send out asap!

It's worth a chasing phonecall. You can apparently get them in your branch too.

  • I sent my letter to the Halifax last week requesting they pay me back my charges of £402.43 they received the letter on the 21st Feb, had a letter back this morning stating they are dealing with my complaint and that i should get a response within 8 weeks, i gave them 14 days for a response what should i do, wait until the 14 days is up and then start court proceedings or wait until the 8 weeks is up?
    Titch :)
  • It is a standard letter you recieved. Most people get them. Ignore it...! They are trying to stall.

The time scale is yours not theirs. You are sueing them dont forget.

    Stick to your 14 days.

Hi, after going through all my statements I sent my letter off requesting 1992.00 + interest off on the 13th Feb. The 14 days is up today so I called the Halifax and was told that it was being dealt with and that I would recieve a letter on the 12 march if it had still not been sorted but could take another 6 weeks !!! Can anyone advise me.... should I call them back and say thay I am not satisfied or shall I just move on to the next step and say that if I do not hear anything in the next week I will start court proceedings. Get very nervous on the phone so would appreciate some help !!!!!!!!!! Thank you .
  • Hi,

been reading through this thread but couldnt find an answer to what im looking for, or at least there are different opinions anyway

    can someone please clarify:

when writing the initial letter asking for them to repay the charges, do I send this to my local branch or the head office? and who should I mark it FAO on the envelope?

Am claiming back £794 (incl. interest),but would settle for less than that considering an actual cost is involved!

    Thanks in advance

    Ben
