i have recieved a letter last week (i was on holiday so have not had chance to react) after i requested my money back saying they are dealing with my complaint and it will take 4 weeks.

not good enough frankly. i am sending my 2nd letter giving them a second chance to react in a better way before i proceed through moneyclaim. i have no patience with a bank who have treated me so badly in the past (iwas with them for well over 15years since i was 4 years old) and i simply want my money back.

edit: does anyone have a telephone number to call them regarding complaints? I plan on calling them on the day that i register for moneyclaim basically giving them one last chance before court

I'd welcome a phone number too, the 7 days was up today and I'd like to phone the Trinity Street place before starting the on-line court proceedings but I am NOT calling their 0870 number!!

here's the story. i have numerous accounts with the halifax, including 2 current accounts (for the time being). my monthly wages are currently being paid into account A (due to my companys HR/Payroll not having a clue) on the 15th of every month. i have a standing order which transfers money from account B on the 16th of the month, to another Two Halifax savings accounts. for the last 2 months i have transfered money from account A to B online myself on the 15th so there is money to cover the standing orders. This month however, i forgot (lots going on you see), and i have been charged £39 for each standing order that could not be fulfilled.

what infuriates me is that i did not even recieve a letter, but an email!! So the Halifax are charging me £80 for an automated email, they didnt even have to buy a stamp!!

it seems absolutely ridiculous when it is an internal transfer, and they can see that i had enough to cover it, albeit in another account.

it really is laughable, and if it wasnt for this site i wouldn't really know what to do!

They bounced one of our cheques when we had an inbound credit due to clear the following day which would more than cover it and had substantial deposits in various Web Saver accounts.

I wrote several letters of complaint but drew an absolute blank so we closed all the accounts and moved elsewhere.

I am currently in the process of making a formal complaint to the Banking Ombudsman which I hope will bear fruit on the grounds of precedent.

They have adjudicated in favour of customers on occasions where banks have failed to consider the 'total banking relationship' with a client when returning cheques.

I suggest that you follow a similar route, although in our case their actions caused us substantial consequential loss.
  • I am all for people getting their money back for the banks charging a rediculious amount in for bounced cheques and the like (have claimed back money myself) but it makes me angry when I read posts with people stating "Halifax will reply no later than X date)
There is no point threatening to take them to court a second time with the letter "you have 7 days to settle" as this won't speed the process any quicker. There is a back log of claims at the moment and they are resolved in the order that they were recieved. You are just wasting your money by filing a claim as they will settle weither you do this or not - if they dont come back with the settlement that you want them by all means say you wont accept their offer and take them court but before they even offer you an amount dont push them into a time frame as it just isnt possible for them to stick too.

I sent off for my statments on Jan 13th recieved a reply saying they will reply to my commplaint within 4 weeks - I didnt send the 2 week deadline then the further 7 day deadline for settlement and low and behold I got a call offering me the full amount I asked for (£819) on Feb 24th.

Court case or no court case Halifax won't prioritise a case that on the fact that a claim has been filed.
Just wait and they will get back to you.

And no before anyone asks I DO NOT work for Halifax

Just makes me angry at the cheek of some people

    Hello

I have been going through my bank statements, I have every one since january 2002 and I have also kept the bank charge warning letters that state the amount overdrawn, the penalty charge and date it will be taken from my account... Most of the charges occured between 2003-early 2005

at a glance there is around £200 worth of charges there maybe a few pound more if I go through the statements more carefully, Is this amount worth going through this process for and risking my bank account closing????

My account is with halifax and as i'm a single mother on income support I feel lucky that they have provided me with a £1000 overdraft (which they raised on my request to £1150 recently so that I could avoid bank charges over the christmas period)....I really don't want to risk losing this account!!!

I have been reading maniacs sticky on the process and I presume (if I go ahead) I would be able to skip the first stage as I have all my statements, but do I have to provide them with the orginals or would photocopies surfice or do i just have to give them the figure I want to claim???

    Many thanks

I had the same with Natwest. I have 3 accounts. Wages paid into A and 2 standing orders going out of A into B & C. Wages paid on 22 of every month and SO going out on 22nd of every month. Was charged £60 for non payment of SO's and then because i didnt know about it until the next month, was also charged £56 for being OD as my wages was not paid until 23rd for one month
