Have just sent my first letter enclosing £10 to the Halifax. This was sent on Saturday and I have received a reply today (Tuesday). The letter states that they are dealing with my request on an informal basis and they have returned my P.O. for £10 as there is no charge for the copies of my statements which will be sent separately. Also enclosed is a copy of their complaints procedure with an assurance that they would like to resolve my concerns. As I am new to this could anyone tell me if this is the standard reply and also let me know if the Halifax are 'clamping down' on claimants as I have read quite a few threads where a minimal amount has been offered and basically told customers to get lost and by all means contact the ombudsmen.0

This sounds like a standard reply. I would insist they deal with your request under the Data Protection Act though, as they have 40 days in which to comply.
Don't worry about what Halifax say unless it's an offer of a full settlement, they may try all sorts of tactics to put you off, including referring you to the ombudsman. Stick exactly to your timetable, do not give them extra time and you should be fine.0 -
Hello,
Just sent off my request for 6 years of charges from the Halifax.
Feel bit nervous really about how much of my money they have taken off me over the years... guess it will be quite alot. However the support of Martin and the forum users on here has encouraged me to go after the Halifax!
Nervewracking pursuing a major company but all signs point to success!!!
Thankyou and I will keep you posted... then I will go get Capital One!!!:cool:0 -
I've got 2 accounts with Halifax and sent off my letters yesterday reclaiming £1300 off one account and £300 of the other. I'm really nervous as well even though I've successfully claimed of Cap 1 and Barclaycard.0

Hi,
My second letter to the Halifax asking to pay back the charges ran out on Monday (14 days)
At 8.04 Monday morning the phone rang, a very nice lady from the Halifax offered me £1200 as a goodwill gesture, I refused, she went to see her manager, they offered me £2000.
I accepted this offer even thogh I asked for £2500, just pleased it was over.
The form arrived this morning to sign, posted back, they said it will be up to 14 days to get the money into my account.
I am so pleased I went ahead with this.
Thanks Martin and everyone here for all the tips.
Anyone just starting out, don't give up its your money.
