    After sending my letter to HBoS to ask for my money back (£745 + interest),I've received a letter from HBoS saying that they're 'sorry to learn you're unhappy with charges applied to your account...........A customer Relations Manager will investigate the points you have raised and you will receive a reply shortly, but certainly no later than 4 weeks........'

    So what should I do now?

    Wait and see what happens;
    Send the 'not happy with response, you've got 7 days' letter;
    Do what louloujs did and go through MCOL.

    Any advice?

    Send the second letter giving another 7 days.

    Halifax have now cashed the £10 cheque that I sent for the statements for the last 6 years.......can anyone tell me how long they waited after that to get the statements? Cheers!

    .... hi, after cashing my cheque, Halifax were remarkably quick to send the statements. I thought they'd wait the full 40 days, but after receiving my cheque they'd cashed it within 7 days and I had the statements in my hand within another 7. They even sent it recorded delivery.

    Good luck.

    at last ive received an offer from the halifax. Requested £69 of charges and offered £69,

    the interest would have been £11, but as it was my fault i went overdrawn feel id be taking the mic.

    theyve sent me something to sign, should i sign it or just phone them and accept offer, will it affect any future claims?

    Hi,
    Did you ring them up to request a refund as its a small amount or did you send a letter? I ask as I want to claim£110, just tried ringing but was told rather abruptly no they will not refund me this money.

    Helen, my claim was very similar to yours (£128). I copied the template letters on this site and Halifax were very quick to comply. If you do it 'properly' as laid out on here, I think they will very quickly change their mind. My guess is that they are fending people off who don't go through the proper channels, hence the terse reply to your phone call. Go on, do it.... it's your money, not theirs.

    Hi,
    Martin,thanks for reply. I am going to do it,you are right,it is my money afterall! There isn't much chance of them defending such a small sum of money surely?!

    I have a question if you don't mind helping?..On the template where it asks you to type in the banks address...do you put your local branch or another one? If possible I would prefer it not to have to go to my local branch and be seen as Im friendly with the staff there lol

  • Following a phonecall from the Halifax, with a goodwill gesture of £290 (which I refused over the phone) I received in the post the next day an acceptance letter stating I had accepted their goodwill gesture, and I was to sign & return the forms enclosed!

    What is my next step please? I would like to send off the next letter to threaten court action, but do I return the acceptance letters unsigned with this, or not return them at all?

    Any help would be appreciated

    ... hi Helen, they won't challenge an amount like that unless someone rules in a bank's favour in the meantime.

    As for where to address your gripe, send all correspondence to their head office which is Trinity Way, Halifax or something like that (it's where I sent mine). It's easy to get the address of the head office from your branch or from their customer services line.

    After sending my initial letter on 30th Jan asking for £4400 (I said I thought £4-50 per returned item was fair) but also enclosing a seperate 'without prejudice' letter offering to settle for £3950, I today had a call offering me £2500. I turned this down and the offer was increased to £3170 which I accepted.

    It took a little longer than I anticipated but even so, I am very happy with the result - provided they do pay out of course! Never accept their first offer is the lesson I think! If I had turned that down I think they may have offered more but to be honest, I don't really care. A few weeks back I had no expectation fo anything and now there is over £3k on it's way to me.

    First check your account as they money may have already been paid in. If it has you need to reply saying you will accept this in partial payment only and are going to court to persue the rest of your claim.
