  • Hi All

I am currently trying to reclaim my many bank charges at the mo, i am a liitle bit worried tho as i am also doing trhe same with a halifax credit card. I had a £600 credit limit, then couldnt keep up with repayments and therefor got charged. I have already paid over £1000 pounds back and they still want £2000 in charges!!! can i claim these back in the same way?? Also i rang the credit card dept and they have just charged me £100 pounds for all my statements(6 yrs) even though i have never recieved a statement of them!!!Just worried this is going to be costly with court cost if they dont cough up!!

    Please someone reply soon!!
  • Hi

I have started court proceedings against Halifax on 3 accounts, mine, my partners and my joint account.

I have had a leeter from the court today saying that they intend to defend.

I am so nervous now. Am I going to have to go to court?

Has anyone got any useful advice for me.
    Thanks for reading

Only j/k...i wouldn't worry too much...your in the right asking for the charges back and the court will (99%) side with you over this i'm certain, as the office of fair trading has ruled that credit card charges were too high (hence why all cc charges are now £12) and are now looking into bank charges.
Just ask your bank to produce a breakdown of the charges you had to pay to justify why they took the amount they did. (the money program on bbc2 said it was about 2.50 for overdraght fees and 4.50 for bouncing a cheque MAX...)
As for going to court....i haven't been ...YET

    Hi im new on here,

After following the instructions for re claiming bank charges halifax owe me £2800 without interest. i have rang halifax the other day because i havent heard anything from them, they replied with they have 8 weeks to respond to my complaint. which makes it 13th March. is this right? i started my claim begining of january so they have had plenty of time.

    Thanks,

    Sue

    What a fab Site!!
Bank Charges refunded from Halifax £2600
Bank Charges refunded from halifax joint account £554

  • does any one work or has worked at halifax?
as the few bank charged that i have had going back 5 years were all refunded. i was wondering if the charges would still be showing on he account as charged and not rerfunded? could i get away with claiming them!!!!!!
  • I have sent my branch at the halifax the first letter requesting £1009.00 plus charges but I have still not heard from the branch.

I am currently sending a second letter threatening court action. Could somebody please advise if I should be sending the letter to my local branch where I opened the account or to the main Halifax registered address???

    Regards Russ:confused:
  • That's not really the point of this site though is it? I'm all for getting money back that we've been overcharged but if you're too greedy you will fall flat on your face! Don't you realise you COULD end up going to court over this? How stupid will you look when your bank turns round with all the evidence, WHICH OF COURSE THEY HAVE, to say that they don't owe you that money? I realise that the Banks 'stole ' from us and it may be tempting for some to do the same back. Follow the advice on this site and you won't go wrong. I have and I've just reclaimed £468 of charges (posted on SUCCESS STORIES thread).
  • hi me again thanks for clarifying my question , much appreciated. i recieved my notice of issue today against halifax bank, which is being served on 18th of feb which is a sunday , do they get served at weekends? just my luck ive had to take it this far, my son asked nat west for charges of £850.00 and got 832.00 back after letter 2!!!! still i'm thrilled for him just wish it was that easy for me! dont mind admitting i'm scared to death, but i know all you fantastic members will support me.

ALL of the banks check the claims made and many users have had amounts deducted from their claims as they have already been refunded.

If you follow the advice given here you will get any money due back to you without resorting to dishonesty.
