  • Having checked my tax code, I found that for the last 3 years my tax code was 347L and should have been 647L, I'm now waiting on my claim form(s) to arrive, and hopefully get a great result, according to a tax advisor that I know, It should be around £800 tax rebate due to me!!! Fingers crossed :j:laugh:grin:

I am daft....and i think i officially now qualify for a job within HMRC as my maths is terrible... its 8 grand that we've been taxed on which we shouldnt have... still a rebate of £1600 which is better than nothing !!!

if your tax code is the above then that means that you were being taxed on £3000 each year that was tax free.... if you were taxed at 20% (which i believe would be standard based on your tax code)... then 20% of £3000 is £600 per year... so over 3 years you should be entitled to £1800 back.... make sure they dont fob you off :)

I received a letter saying I have been overpaying my income tax since the tax year 2004/2005 tax year. My tax code is BR. I dont understand what the 2009/10 page of my tax calculation means. Which figure is the one they owe me. There are lots of figures. Also what will happen with money owed in my last tax year 2009/10

If you have P800s for each year? The total owing should be summarised as the final entry on the 09/10 P800. It says 'Repayment due' ...... and there will be a Note '16' at the far right hand side?

Also easy enough to cross check by adding all the individual overpayments?
Also what will happen with money owed in my last tax year 2009/10

.. don't know what that means? 09/10 is included .... are you talking the current year 10/11? If so are you employed / had a revised code number taking you off BR?
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !
  • not sure if im posting in the right place. ive tried using the tax calculator but i have two tax codes and get two p60s, one from my employer which is k40 cumulative my salary is £13066 a year. i also get my late husbands pension with a tax code of BR cumulative, no numbers after it, but i get £3454. i have gone from full time to part time in 2007 and queried my k code with inland revenue 2 years ago who said at the time it was correct due to having two incomes. what do i do now the calculator cant calculate my BR code because it has no numbers after it and the k code takes a big slice of my income.

Do you also receive a state pension?
  • So after reading the article and going through the steps, and then double checking with the HMRC site.... I finally bit the bullet and picked up the phone.

The chap on the phone seems to think that there is a good chance of a rebate for 2007, 2008 and 2009.... however he will have to pass it over to the admin people for the "fine tooth comb" treatment (Now i'm starting to wonder if I've done the right thing !)

Really nice guy though, and he said I should expect some form of Notification within 4 weeks or so.

Just a quick question here: I'm on the right tax code, but the amount taken out of my pay packet each month is about £17 higher than all the income calculators say it should be. How do I go about sorting this out?

    Any help much appreciated :)
