Hadn't appreciated he was still there. Armed forces are dealt with by Public Departments (Cardiff).

Ring the general PAYE number : 0845 3000 627 ......... provide his NI number. It's likely they won't be able to access the record as they're security protected .......... they will either transfer you or get someone to ring you

Is that for this year or a previous year? If the latter do you have a P800 (PAYE calculation) showing the overpayment?

  • I've come home to a letter from HRMC stating that my tax code is changing from 647L to BR, which states all income will be taxed at 20%

I've had a look online, and it says that normally this code is for second jobs. I've been with the same company for 4 years, it is the only job I have, and my circumstances haven't changed (although I am getting married this weekend to someone who doesnt earn a penny, but the taxman doesn't know that yet). Any ideas why I've suddenly seen a change of tax code? Im going to lose around £140 per month, which is a decent amount to lose. :(

Yes ..... for some reason HMRC thinks you have 2 jobs.

There's a few such instances about at the moment and apparently traceable to changes in payroll (Works number or similar) not being signalled properly.

Just ring HMRC and they'll sort it .... just tell them what you've said above. There's a number on the P2 ...... best early morning as there's a few calling!

  • I changed jobs in November and had my tax code set at 602L for the tax year 2010/2011 to refelect the medical benefit that was being taxed each month from my previous employer.

My new employer does not provide medical benefit and i have rung HMRC to inform them of this.

They have said i am not entitled to have tax code changed to the full code even though i no longer have my medical benefit but it would be applied from the nex tax year of 2011/2012.

Does anyone know if this correct or not?

Quite likely. As the restriction in this year's coding probably reflects your P11D benefit figures for last year. You can check by comparing your previous P11Ds with your Code numbers?

So after reading the article and going through the steps, and then double checking with the HMRC site.... I finally bit the bullet and picked up the phone.

The chap on the phone seems to think that there is a good chance of a rebate for 2007, 2008 and 2009.... however he will have to pass it over to the admin people for the "fine tooth comb" treatment (Now i'm starting to wonder if I've done the right thing !)

Really nice guy though, and he said I should expect some form of Notification within 4 weeks or so.
