'Within 14 days' it says on the documentation with the P800 ....... but don't quote me!

I checked both my husband, and my codes. Mine was ok, but my husband was on basic rate!
Called the tax office, and they advised that for some reason my husband had been showing as having two jobs - it seems they had two different company names for the same company.
Anyway, he was owed £792, which eventually got paid direct through his wages last week. The delay was not down to the tax office - they were superquick, but the employer told my hubby that he wasn't going to give it him, as he pays over the odds for weekend work! needless to say, one quick 'threat' to call the tax office - and he handed it over. Crook!
So, thanks MSE!!:j
I have told the world and his wife to check their tax codes.0 -
Do you think you now ought to check back earlier years?
How long has hubby been on code BR?0 -
Hi folks,
Just a quick question, the tax year is 06/04/10 - 05/04/11 right?
06/04/10 - 02/07/10: temping at council, hourly wage on 603L
08/07/10 - 15/09/10: volunteering unpaid overseas
16/09/10 - 07/11/10: unemployed on JSA
08/11/10 - to now: employed FT on 643L
How would I know if I'm due a rebate? I rang my local office and they weren't sure what I was on about re. the volunteering...any clues?0 -
Correct on the span of the tax year. If you gave your P45 from the council temp job to DWP - they should have handled any refund due from the early part of the year?
On the current employment - depends how much you earn as to whether you will be paying tax as you may still be catching up on your personal allowance (£6435 ....... is normally £6475). If you say what you've earned so far this year (inc the JSA) - and current rate of pay / tax being paid (and did JSA make a refund) - someone will look at it.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Ah ok, so I went away in July and received my P45 from temping on my return. Signed on to JSA and gave them the temping P45.
Then left JSA for my new job, giving my new job the P45 from the DWP.
So looks like I've done it the right way, and it should all have been sorted as a result?0 -

You've done it the right way .... but only you can say if it's sorted? You should have had a refund (assuming you paid tax at the temp job) shortly after you signed onto JSA. And, depending on earnings, you may pay no (or reduced) tax initially at the new job.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Notice of Coding - this for those getting the State Pension - check the figure they use in deducting the State Pension from your allowance (as is says on the form it is estimated) for me it has been wrong more often than right. Rough guide is weekly pension times 52. Take into account any rise in the pension and the date it starts.
I have not found out if they use the financial or calendar year for this.0 -

They use the 'financial' calendar as DWP change rates to align with that. The restriction in the coding is (should be) the figures provided to them by DWP .... as to what accrues to you in the year.
As you're probably misunderstanding how it works? The State Pension is taxable when accrued - not when paid. So if you're paid other than weekly there will always be a mismatch from the P2 to what you're paid ....... usually most noticeable in the start up year.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Hello,
Just wondering if the tax problems that have affected people are just for income tax or if it includes National Insurance contributions too.
My calculations for what I've paid this year so far don't add up and was wondering if you the main 20% tax band includes the national insurance contributions we make too?
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers
