Also, once you've paid money why waste that money by not following the instructions? That is foolish. Anyone can make excuses but you are only fooling yourself (I mean "one-self", I'm not getting at you just trying to fire you up!)
I have tried SW before and I scoffed and argued and questioned ... and didn't lose weight. I started again and thought "I am paying £5 a week, I might as well get my moneysworth", I stay to class, I check what I am eating, I have cut back on the wine and "bad" things -I now call them the "fun" things and they are limited! It works, truly it works, but IT DOES TAKE AN EFFORT.
This isnt getting at you Puddy, but is an attempt to enthuse all the people who have said in the last couple of days they are thinking of trying slimming world.
Oh, and there's not much weighing, most healthy extras can be just counted (1, 2, 3 of something). On extra easy there's no other weighing to do.
TRY IT!!!!!:D
sorry i didnt mean that i failed because of sw, i was just saying that it didnt go right for me because i didnt do it properly. i have done sw a few times, one time was about 13 years ago and was very successful, but i was younger then!0 -

I couldn't agree with this more PLUS I could have written your post too Puddy.
I think the time comes when you have to stop deluding yourself, and decide why you are sabotaging yourself (I mean this generally and subjectively), and make the decision to allow yourself to lose weight.
It's not rocket science - take in less than you use and you lose.....
I too have tried every diet going, every complimentary therapy, every diet pill, legal and illegal, and hypnotherapy etc etc.
I think the hypnotherapy lead me here, as I realised as soon as I started to lose weight my subconscious sabotaged me, so I give myself a [STRIKE]kick up the[/STRIKE] talking to, and us ethe mantra that 'I'm doing this for me', follow the plan, and be humble enough to realise that the people' at SW know what they are talking about, and weight loss is in my future!:):)
This is not a dig at anyone, it just gladdens my heart that there are so many people out there struggling in the same way, and we have wandered here in the great cosmic swirl and found each other.
Thank You.:beer:NO EXCUSES - THIS YEAR IT'S PERSONAL..........0 -

Puddy - i have done many diets in my life - GI, Atkins, fat free etc.. and none of them worked (i never tried WW tho). I have always been one of those people with no willpower who ADORES food!! I chose SW because i could still love food and lose weightI loved the fact that i could eat as much as i needed to feel satisfied. Technically i need to lose 10 stone but i set my target to lose 8 stone and see how i go. Yes its a massive target but now i have been doing this for 9 months it doesn't seem so big. I would recommend SW to anyone! Esp if they want to lose a lot of weight
Im a serious foody and I think thats why Im loving SW as I can create all sorts of things (Im a chuck it in and see gal) whereas with WW you had to weigh so many things...
Weight loss programmes drive me insane -things like super-size verses super-skinny ...how come they never show anyone who actually does cook from scratch and eat fruit n veg  -even when I wasn't doing SW my "5 a day" has never been in single figures, I have never bought a ready meal in the 10 years I have known hubby and in the last 5 years being here I think we have had possibly 6 takeaways .... my main problem was loving cooking - and eating big portions..
Puddy you will get as much help as possible on here -and we can throw as many recipes at you as you can handle.
ooh I forgot to say yesterday -when I first started I ummed and ahhed about getting a "leg magic" to tone my bottom half... well huby haas ordered me one :j -*I don't know about it -its a suprise* but they sent me a confirmation e-mail :rotfl:.. let see how many more cms I can whittle off with that-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
angelfairy wrote: »can anyone give me a brief run down on how the meetings work?
All the groups run to the same format - if they have a 7pm start then new members are asked to come at 7 so that they can sit through a new member talk which gives the basic info on the plan.
You sit through the meeting, which consists of the Consultant going round the group asking what this week's result was for each individual (if you're upset at the thought of this simply ask the C to leave you out of this bit till you feel more confident). Your weight is NEVER disclosed to anyone, just how much you've lost or gained during the week.
This is called Image Therapy and the idea is that all members get involved with either dishing out a particular recipe which has proved successful or possibly someone has a party looming and doesn't know how she'll cope so other members give strategies for coping.
If done well, Image Therapy is brilliant and the thing which sends everyone home filled with enthusiasm
After IT, the Consultant will tell you of any new foods which have come onto the market or new Healthy Extras which have been added to the lists. If anyone has any questions of the group, now's the time to ask. This bit can also be very informative.
Go along to a group - if you're alone there should be a 'spotter' in the room who will hopefully greet you at the door and tell you where to sit etc. Every group I've ever been in is friendly and fun and I bet you'll find some friends in no time.....after all, everyone in there is there for the same reason so all have that in commonI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
Maybelline wrote: »Hi All, I am wanting to join SW I was on WW a long time ago.
But im a bit scared that I will fail and not know what to do.. is it a really easy program to follow?
You only fail if you give up trying
The plans are really easy to follow after the first week or two (once you've got your head round it, lol). Read the books carefully and everything you need to know is in there. The Consultant is at the end of the phone if you have a panic attack
You need to be commited to losing weight. Wthout commitment you will not succeed I'm afraid, so you have to be determined to change the way you shop, cook and eat.....once that's in hand you're awayI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
sarymclary wrote: »Hello all,
I did SW years ago, and want to start using it again, but I've forgotten most of the 'rules', and have lost my books. I definitely cannot afford to join a group, and the online one is out of my price range at the moment too. I have found starter packs on ebay that I can get for under £15 (maybe less if I win an auction), and they include the following books: 7 days to success, food optimising, body magic, & choose success. Would those books be enough for me to be able to get started, and learn the principles of what's allowed/free/syns, etc?
I've been struggling all year with calorie-counting, and am finding my appetite is what is undermining my efforts, so SW seems to be the obvious answer to me. I've been trying to find somewhere online that would give me a starting point. I have found a basic 7 day plan on the SW site, so can use that. Is there an old SW thread on here where the basics may be? I regularly contribute on another MSE weightloss thread, so know already how supportive, wise and marvellous this community here can be, so I'll say thank you in advance for any help.
I'm actually feeling quite excited at the prospect of getting started, and plan to impose it on the whole family, so I cannot be undermined in any way. I've already got good tips to make a soup from this thread, so am going off to make one of those now!
Sary, I've seen your posts on other threads, so feel I almost 'know' you already
Please, please don't buy your pack from eBay. I've seen them go for ridiculous prices and you can get everything you need from joining a proper group for less than a tenner. You need never go back if you don't want to, but at least you'll know all the new ideas ie: Extra Easy which is a brilliant plan to keep the whole family eating the same things (which makes it cheaper and easier on Mum IMO).
If you go back to the first page of this thread, you'll find the rules on the EE plan and if you need anything else, just askI let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
how much is slimming world at the moment and does it ever get given free by your gp?
i have asked this on the weight watchers thread too,, but im wondering what people think is the best one for someone very overweight, not just a few stone or so and also someone who has all the knowledge of what to eat but none of the willpower or emotional strength?!
To join SW is £9.95 and the weekly class fee is £4.95. You can pay for several weeks up front and get free weeks, which is great if you have a lump sum to spare as it saves in the long run.
In my opinion, SW is far superior to WW and I have done them both so not biased (well, I am a bit, lol).
SW have a little saying that you don't need will-power since you have choice-power and it really is true. You get so much to eat which is wholesome and filling, that you don't need as much of the rubbish you may have been eating in the past - which saves money (chocolate/crisps/biscuits etc are expensive) that you can spend on more fruit and veg.
In a matter of weeks you should start to feel more healthy with more energy and you will quickly see a difference both on the scales and with the tape measure/
As others have said, ask at your GP surgery to see if your area does pay for you to go to group, you may be one of the lucky ones
My oldest member was 80 and she lost 4½ stone in a year, so age is no barrier to losing weight!!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0
