Slimming World - a Christmas countdown!

Hi all, hope everybody finds us here. I've put a link on the old thread so finger's crossed :D

I've not been on for a couple of days as I'm trying to sort out a 'junk' room that has been the gathering place for all manner of unwanted 'stuff' ever since the last of my offspring left home. I'm hoping to clear it all out and make a special bedroom for our gorgeous little Grandson. He's into everything Thomas the Tank Engine, so I've got all the bits ready to go in once all the other bits have come out.

Anyway, amongst the dross, I have found a few nuggets which I've spent far too long mulling over. One of the nuggets is this.....I can't credit the original author as I've no idea who it is but I think it's very moving (and very true for many of us):-

Cry from the Heart

I'm trying very hard this time, I've so much weight to lose,
There is so very much of me, I'm not the 'me' I'd choose,
They say in every 'fatty' there's a 'thinny' hiding there,
I've never seen my 'thinny' - I think I'm much too scared.

I'm thirty-five, attractive, (from the neck up only, mind),
And there's lots of living to do yet, if only I could find
A special strength inside me that will help me fight this flab;
To be bright and fit and active, and not fat and slow and drab.

I'm aware of all the dangers being overweight can bring,
And the problems we all suffer; some the silliest of things,
The garden chair that is too small the seat belt that's too short,
The public loo that traps you - when you're in that's it, you're caught!

Smart clothes, hair-do and make-up help you stop feeling too bitter
But I feel that all my life has been a waste - I've been a quitter.
The time has come to change this now, I want to be a winner,
I don't want to be a beauty queen, just a little thinner.

I need lots of help to do this, it's too hard for me alone,
I don't need to lose just pounds, for me the goal is several stones.
With your help I will try, and as the months go be we'll see
If inside this dull, drab fatty is a new and happy me.
I let my mind wander and it never came back!

Think it's probably a good idea to put this at the very beginning of the new thread so it's easy to find for anyone who needs it:-

The Original and Green plans are still going strong but most people may well have heard of the new Extra Easy plan which is sweeping through the land :) If you've ever wondered if it works, I promise you it does. If you've ever wondered how it works - well the science confuses me, but I would just say to trust the experts at SW, they wouldn't send you on the wrong path.

If you fancy having a go at it, here are the official 'rules' to ensure that you not only lose weight regularly but get all the nutrition your body needs to function well:-

    Extra Easy:

    1: Choose your Free Food

Anything that’s Free Food on Green OR Original – so that’s pasta, rice, potatoes, lean meat, poultry, fish and all the Superfree food – is totally Free on Extra Easy! Yes, you can eat unlimited meat, potatoes and veg, fish, chips and mushy peas, and chicken curry and rice with no measuring, no weighing, no counting – no kidding!
And for super-fast, super healthy results, fill one third of your plate with Superfree Food!
    2: Choose your Healthy Extras

Each day select one Healthy Extra ‘a’ choice and one Healthy Extra ‘b’ choice from our simplified list of calcium and fibre-filled foods, including milk, cheese, bread and cereal.
3: Enjoy 5-15 Syns each day

And if the Syn values for Green and Original foods are different on the standard Syns lists, count the lower one!

If you find your weight loss has slowed down or stopped, check………
1.Whether everything you're counting as Free, is Free

    2.Whether you're under-estimating Syn values (over-estimate if guessing)

3.Whether you're counting everything that should be counted

4.Whether you're measuring everything that should be measured

5.Whether you're sabotaging your success in any other way (using SAS logs will help uncover individual long-term self-sabotage patterns) and, if none of these is the culprit, either...........

A: increase the proportion of Superfree Foods to half of your plate

    OR

B: switch to more Speed Foods

And above all, if you follow the plan, any plan, 100% you will lose weight!
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • Thanks for the poem Consultant:beer: - I'm going to print it off and stick it on my fridge to remind me why I'm struggling - will really help on the days I struggle!

I wish I were clever enough to have written it myself. I think it's really good and seems to me to have been written by a serial slimmer like I was before I started with Slimming World.

I hope it helps you :)

I also found the story of Mrs Sogood. It's clever and surprisingly apt, but very long-winded. If everybody hasn't already come across it in group, I'll write it out......just let me know if you want it :D

I think that's why I identify with the poem as I'm a serial slimmer; but this time I'm not long off target - only 1 stone to go!!:D I think the poem just reminds us why we are doing it - we're not just struggling for no reason - we're struggling to lose the weight which will ultimately make us happier with ourselves!:)

I've heard it before but it really does make you think; so would love a copy. Thanks.
  • Hello, found you!:T

I got 6 big pork chops from the Co-op yesterday for £3.50 approx, marked down, so today I have slow-cooked them for work lunches all next week. And I've used my Lakeland Fat Magnet for the second time in two days, it really does work! I then dropped the ice cubes into the de-fatted stock so any remaining fat should quickly come to the top. Very proud of myself :p

Has anyone else joined the "balls on the Xmas tree" scheme at group? I'm hoping to lose 7lbs by Christmas so fingers crossed, because I'm not too strict with myself. In fact, I am carefully not mentioning the ch*p shop ch*ps I had after a halloween pub party last night :rotfl:
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!

This sounds brilliant - I'll have to have one of these - I'm not known as the gadget queen by my family for nothing :rotfl:

We did one of these in my group last Christmas. All went swimmingly until one hapless member came and asked how she could 'uncolour' a couple of baubles because she had gained :rotfl: It lost credability after that :rotfl:

One of our members put on the tree that she wanted a new man! Our Consultant is apparently still working on that one!:rotfl:

well not too bad a day

30 mins walk ( fairly slow-steady pace IYSWIM) have found my pedometer today which is good I'll use it tomorrow :)

    Food wise
    brunch
muller light, prunes (HEB), strawberries and blueberries

    tea
mushroom and onion omelette, 1oz cheese (HEA) 2 slices of ham

    snacks
2 mullers and some 0% greek yoghurt and a banana

probably not enough now I look at it but I am struggling to get my appetite back after my op, will WI tomorrow and the work towards getting more active which will no doubt help the appetite!!
Go hopefully into each new day, enjoy something from every day no matter how small, you never know when it will be your last
