    Morning everyone

I've just done my at home WI and I have lost 4.5lbs this week :j not quiet sure how as I consumed a lot of alcohol Sat night, mind you I did have a lot of exercise yesterday IYKWIM ;). the best bit of all is that I've dropped down into the next stone bracket by 0.5lbs. Such a psychological boost :D

I'll post my meal plans later. Does anyone have a recipe for pepper soup? I have a few on the turn so thought soup would be a good option.

    x

Quite agree flutterbyuk25. That's what I'd hoped for last WI but I'd gained a pound instead. I've been so miserable ever since. I feel as if life is out to sabotage me. I sound an ungrateful wretch but I'm having a meal with a friend tomorrow (she's a fabulous cook and I just know it won't be SW friendly) and then I'm off on Thursday for a few days in France. I'm craving some normality so I can hit the plan properly.

Quick question, sort of thinking ahead to Christmas: I noticed in my book that there are syns in Bubble & Squeak. Why would that be? I assumed LO veg and frylight would be syn free. Any ideas?

    Good Morning Peeps,

A goodish start to the day in that I got my backside out for a jog. It wasn't a long one as I have a bit of a cold, but will hopefully get me back in the routine of going. I also hope to re-start the 30 day shred DVD this afternoon as well. I'm back to work on Thursday, and my shifts have changed from 12 hour 7-7 days and nights to a mix of 8-10 hours mostly late shifts, so exercise will give me some motivation not to lay in bed each morning (fingers crossed!).

So I'm going to try an extra easy day today which I don't normally do as I like two HEA/HEB's but we shall see how I get on.

    Breakfast
SW Quiche made with egg, ff cottage cheese, mushrooms, tomatoes, ham and turkey slices, onion.
    Baked Beans

    Lunch
HM thick veggie soup with pearl barley
    Fibre plus bar (HEB)

    Dinner
    Grilled salmon
Leek, Butternut squash and Courgette Risotto with 125ml white wine (6 syns)

    Snacks
    Milk allowance for tea (HEA)
lemon Hi Fi Bar (5.5 syns)

I have loads and loads of cooking apples from the tree in the garden. Does anyone have any SW ideas for using them? I know i'll have to syn them if I cook them and am going to try and resist making apple crumble and pie shaped goodies.

    Have a good day All,

I'd imagine the syns in bubble and squeek would be assuming that some milk/cream/butter has been used in the mash, if not then it would be syn free I'd have thought.

As for the cooking apples, as you say, you'll have to syn them if you cook them but how about a baked apple? You could fill it with mixed berries or some minced meat for a christmassy version if you have a few more spare syns. you could then top it with some free yogurt or some sweetened quark.
    • although I always do green, I am going to follow the EE principle of 1/3 superfree at every meal
I can't stress how much I think this is really VITAL to decent sized weight losses. Now fair enough if you are happier not eating the superfree and having 1/2 or 1lb losses, but i strongly believe that my tendancy to have at least 1/3, and to be honest usually 1/2 to 2/3 superfree is what a) results in decent sized losses and b) evens out my sometimes terrible syn count to still counting as a loss :o :rotfl:

I am no angel (though some say differently :A they just don't know me that well ;) ) and won't always be practicing what I preach here (someone remind me of it when I am not losing, yes?) but at the mo I'm all about stews and soups, and its 1) keeping me interested because there are so many different recipes and flavours to try, and 2) keeping my superfree food intake up without me even really trying or noticing.

    :T

Skint slimmer angel out, I'll now adopt my halloween devil horns and ask consultant if the point of that Mrs sogood poem was to make us realise that Christmas day is all about coming off the bandwaggon in really good style, cos if half-heartedness results in a couple of hundred syns, we might as well do it good and propper and feel like we've had fun, yes? a025.gif

Make lots of BIG, delicious and full fat pies, and crumbles. Go mad on the sugar and butter.

    Freeze.

Give away to friends and family (or your enemy if they are trying to slim ;)), then polish your halo as 1) you've stuck to a baked apple or two and are therefore in full control of your own syns and 2) your friends/family/ worst-slimming-enemy think you are wonderfully generous :rotfl:

  • Hope Martin isn't going to block me for spamming, but I've got a few things to say which I think merit seperate posts.

This one is some recipes from the book Family feats for a fiver.

    EASY Tuna pasta bake
    Serves 4
    3 syns on EE
    8 on green
    19 on red

    340g dried fusilli pasta
    1 small leek
    100g frozen spinach
    100g sweetcorn
    250g tub quark
170g fat free natural fromage frais
    400g tuna chunks canned
    85g reduced fat cheddar, grated
    Salt and pepper

    1) Chop/slice/drain ingredients
    2) Preheat grill to hot
    3) Cook pasta until al dente. Half way through add veg. Drain all, put back in pan.
    4) Stir Quark, fromage frais& tuna in to the mix with half the cheese and season.
    5) Chuck in large ovenproof dish, sprinkle with cheese, grill for 10 minutes.

PS I think it would be nice to add wholegrain mustard to it too J

    Curried egg mayo salad
    (good idea for lunchboxes)

½ syn per portion on each plan
    Eggs – recipe says 6 (serves 4)
    1tsp med curry powder
    3 spring onions
    1 apple
    3tbps fat free fromage frais
3 tbsp very low fat mayo (personally I’d cheat and just use the mayo and syn it for convenience!)
    Cos lettuce
    radishes
    Celery
    Tomatoes
    Cress

    Method:
    1) Boil and peel eggs
    2) Chop salad items
    3) Mix from frais, mayo and curry powder. Combine with chopped eggs. Serve on bed of salad

Red pepper, spinach, sweet potato tortilla
I’m not going to write out the whole recipe because i don’t think you need it and its rather long – but its the above ingredients sliced and roasted, mixed with herbs and eggs, quark dolloped on top then baked. The herbs are rosemary, basil & garlic. It looks like it’d be nice hot or cold.

The ultimate quick cook pea & ham soup
    Free on EE
    1 ½ green
    4 on red
    Serves 4
    1 medium onion, chopped
1 litre veg stock (although personally I think this would be better with the ham stock cube that knorr do, or your own if you happen to have been organised enough to make some and freeze it. That is highly unlikely for me, so I use the stock cubes!)
    454g frozen peas (i.e. a small bag)
    14g mint leaves
100g lean ham, chopped up small.

    1) Boil onion in stock
    2) Add peas, return to boil and let simmer for 7 minutes
    3) Add mint, blend
    4) Stir in ham
    Simples!
The same method can also be applied to creamed sweetcorn, (use frozen if you can’t get the tins), chicken stock and pieces of chicken to make a gorgeous chicken and sweetcorn soup. I add a bit of chilli to mine.

  • Last post from me for now, but its a poem my first consultant gave to us and has always stuck with me :)

Two frogs fell into a deep cream bowl,
    One was an optimistic soul;
But the other took the gloomy view,
"I shall drown," he cried, "and so will you."

So with a last despairing cry,
He closed his eyes and said, "Good-bye."
But the other frog, with a merry grin
Said, "I can't get out, but I won't give in!

I'll swim around till my strength is spent.
For having tried, I'll die content."
Bravely he swam until it would seem
His struggles began to churn the cream.

On the top of the butter at last he stepped
And out of the bowl he happily hopped.
What is the moral? It's easily found.
If you can't get out -- keep swimming around!
