I did SW years ago, and want to start using it again, but I've forgotten most of the 'rules', and have lost my books. I definitely cannot afford to join a group, and the online one is out of my price range at the moment too. I have found starter packs on ebay that I can get for under £15 (maybe less if I win an auction), and they include the following books: 7 days to success, food optimising, body magic, & choose success. Would those books be enough for me to be able to get started, and learn the principles of what's allowed/free/syns, etc?
I've been struggling all year with calorie-counting, and am finding my appetite is what is undermining my efforts, so SW seems to be the obvious answer to me. I've been trying to find somewhere online that would give me a starting point. I have found a basic 7 day plan on the SW site, so can use that. Is there an old SW thread on here where the basics may be? I regularly contribute on another MSE weightloss thread, so know already how supportive, wise and marvellous this community here can be, so I'll say thank you in advance for any help.
I'm actually feeling quite excited at the prospect of getting started, and plan to impose it on the whole family, so I cannot be undermined in any way. I've already got good tips to make a soup from this thread, so am going off to make one of those now!
You can indeed buy them on Ebay - look for the one which includes the new Extra Easy plan, that's worth a try! You can just join though - it cost me less than a tenner. Special offer on all of November. Maybe there's not a group near you?0 -
Hello everyone,
I`ve just found this thread and wondered if I could join ? Over the last 4 or 5 years I have put on two stone in weight and want to get it off and keep it off. I have never dieted before, but my youngest sister goes to SW and says it`s very good. I really don`t want to be doing much weighing and counting of stuff (probably not the best of things to NOT want to do when dieting), but my sis says SW isn`t so bad that way and there are lots of free foods I can eat without all that. I`m not really sweet toothed, would prefer a lump of cheese to chocolate and quite like the look of the Extra easy plan.
What has made me decide to finally go on a diet is, we are going out with friends for a meal tomorrow and I went to buy a dress yesterday and got such a shock when I looked in the mirror, I carry most of my weight round my tummy (blame a liking for lager at the weekend) and I looked like I did when I was 6 month pregnant ! I really want to drop a few pounds so I look better for Christmas, so intend to start properly after this weekend (get the long planned meal out of the way first) then go for it. Between now and Monday though I am trying to ease myself into things and get my head into the SW mindframe as it were.
I am 10st 13lb and would love to get back to my 9st 2lb, but would settle for losing a stone and a half. If I could lose half a stone before Christmas I would be really happy. I`m 5 ft 6 so my BMI is ok, I just don`t feel ok if you know what I mean ? I feel overweight and sluggish and now pretty depressed at the sight of my tummy.
I can`t really get to a meeting regularly, as I live in a rural area, don`t drive and the transport system is pretty grim as to frequency of service. I have a friend who does drive who might be persuaded to go with me, she has said she needs to lose weight, but she mentioned after Christmas and I want to start ASAP. I did think about joining online and doing it that way, but feel that I`d fall by the way side through lack of support, having no-one to ask questions of if I`m unsure about things, or contact with anyone else who is also trying to lose weight, which is why I was thrilled to find this thread. I do hope no-one minds me joining in ?0 -
Good afternoon all!!!!
Just wondered if anyone could help me to syn this pizza I had. Its not an exact match to what i had so i chose the meatiest one from pizza hut and i'll probably have to add a few syns on as the slices were exceptionally huge!
Per slice....
Kcal 275
protein 2.5
carbs 28.9
fat 13.1
sat fat 4.6
salt 1.4
sugar 1.2g
TIA for your help.
I've already put a damage limitation plan in my mind to cover the rest of today and the next few days til weigh in.
Why did i do it? I have a perfectly good tin of baked beans at home that i could've had for lunch. :-(0 -
good morning,
has anyone seen that weight watchers are changing their plan to pretty much copy slimming world!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1326447/Weight-Watchers-Pro-Points-plan-A-new-approach-dieting-success.html
I read that article last week and immediately thought it sounded suspiciously like SW!
I have the lurgy too:( Feeling a bit like you Vixie-Pixie, sore throat, sore ears, achey, hot.
Ditched my last lecture at uni i felt so crap. Been good foodwise though.
Breakfast - coffee, yog (0.5), nana, alpen light
Snack - alpen light, grapes
Lunch - WM roll, 16 g cheese, ham(0.5), pickle(0.5), HM lentil soup
Snack - tea, kitkat(5.5)
Dinner - quorn bolognaise, 26g cheese
Had both A+B and 7 syns by the time i have had dinner, might syn a little more cheese for dinner and maybe have another kitkat! The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

Does anybody else take their body measurements? I've just done mine for the first time but don't know when I should do them again. Should I do them next week or do you think I should just do it monthly? Sometimes I feel thinner but haven't lost
Thank you for mentioning meauserments, you have reminded me to take mine again.
When I first started my consultant told me to take measurements, and for anytime I did not lose weight she said to take measurements again to see the difference in inches instead of pounds.
This will be my 5th WI so I will take them tonight and let you know how I get on.0 -

To put it thru the syn calculator we would need to know the weight of the slice in grams. If you know the name of the pizza could probably find it on syns on-line.
Don't beat yourself up - pizza is very difficult to resist and I've given in on more than a few occassions - pizza is my weakness!:eek:0 -

After a painful and very windy night I feel a lot better. Dyno rod soup and lactulose together is not recommended!
ETA I have just read your discussion on Movicol and I have decided to talk to my GP about it next week.
So far I have had my ready brek but nothing else again today. It is only because I remembered the thread that I have remembered I need to eat. I have also had hot chocolate in a cafe with cream on top. I think that is 6 syns but if anyone thinks differently can you let me now please?
Tonight's evening meal is spag bol with wholemeal spelt pasta and no cheese on top.
I will have my breakfast ryvita with my bedtime tablets.
When I read other peoples eating plans for the day it doesn't seem as though I am eating enough. We are desperately short of cash for fresh fruit and vegetables but I have bought lots of frozen vegetables so can add them to my spag bol.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

Evening all
WI last night - lost 1/2lb. On one hand i'm happy about that as I had SUCH a dreadful week and thought I would put on. On the other hand I'm p*ssed off about it because my friend had an equally (if not more) naughty week, lost 3 1/2 lb  and got SOTW for the 2nd time in a month! :mad:Not that i'm competitive at all
but I've had equal losses to her just in different weeks and not got SOTW
. She's 2lb ahead of me now so I'm gonna be DAMN good this week to beat her
(note: I am not actually angry, as I'm damn proud of her, just competitive/jealous)
Either way, that's 10lb in my first 4 weigh ins, not to be sneezed at
Today's mealplan is/was:
B: banana and yoghurt
L: 300g covent garden minestrone soup - just found out according to syns online this is 5 1/2 syns?!?! For vegetable soup?!?! wholemeal roll (b) , satsuma, 2 fresh figs, persimmon , hifi bar (B)quorn sausage casserole (2 syns for sachet mix), jacket potato
Trying SO HARD not to touch sweet stuff, I have learnt that I'm incapable of having 'just a bit'!0 -
trixietoes wrote: »I've heard but I'm not sure if it is true but on average a half a stone loss will mean a drop in dress size. I've lost just over 1 stone and have dropped say 1.5 dress sizes as I was hovering between 16 & 18 (depending on shops) and now I am a 14.
Maybe I was wearing clothes that were far too big...?
Anyway, green for me today.
Porridge, banana and cinnamon (HEAB)
plain pasta, 2 alpen light bars (HEB)
2 mini babybel lights (HEA)
new potatoes, baked salmon (7.5 syns) carrots peas and green beans.
Banana, satsumas.
Am going to make a sw quiche later, which can cook while the salmon's doing, for lunch tomorrow.Say what you mean.. mean what you say... without being mean.0
