how much is slimming world at the moment and does it ever get given free by your gp?

i have asked this on the weight watchers thread too,, but im wondering what people think is the best one for someone very overweight, not just a few stone or so and also someone who has all the knowledge of what to eat but none of the willpower or emotional strength?!

Wow, vixie, 5 stones lost. You truly have done SW properly. I only have 2 stone to lose now and lost the first 2 stone over 2 years. I don't want to wait until 2012 to be 10 stone.
Your story has made me realise I have to follow SW properly. I am on Bodyoptimise (SW online). It is easier to cheat yourself when going it alone. But cheating myself is costing me money and wasting a great opportunity to make a difference in my life.

So far I have never measured my milk each day I just guess that I have 250ml semi skimmed. I never measure oil or butter. I do measure my cereal each day that I remember to eat, but that is the only think I measure. My HEs have always been a guess.

Now that I have had yet another light bulb moment I am determined to do this properly. I am going out for lunch tomorrow and will write everything down. I will go for a salad or soup to be on the safe side (without bread).

I have just remembered that when I was out today for hot chocolate (with cream on top) I also had a piece of mars bar cake. It is no wonder I lose very slowly! I cheat myself at every opportunity.

I didn't go to my WI at the hospital today as I knew I hadn't lost this week.

Anyone have any idea how many syns for a small slice of mars bar cake?

i measure my milk by pouring it into a baby bottle and then keep it in the fridge, that way i know i'm having the right amount. I always weigh my cereal and cheese too :)

But despite that i have moments where i cheat - thats happened more recently which is why my losses have slowed. I'm following mealplans again like i was doing and things are back on track again. I gave myself a long time to lose my weight because i didn't want to pressure myself!

Puddy - i have done many diets in my life - GI, Atkins, fat free etc.. and none of them worked (i never tried WW tho). I have always been one of those people with no willpower who ADORES food!! I chose SW because i could still love food and lose weight :) I loved the fact that i could eat as much as i needed to feel satisfied. Technically i need to lose 10 stone but i set my target to lose 8 stone and see how i go. Yes its a massive target but now i have been doing this for 9 months it doesn't seem so big. I would recommend SW to anyone! Esp if they want to lose a lot of weight :)

Some Drs do SW on referral but it depends on your area. I know my area doesn't anymore which is annoying. I think standard price is £10 joining fee plus £4.95 - someone said earlier there was an offer on for november tho!
All hail to the sale!!!!!!

I have not heard of SW free from GP. I was sent to my local gym by my GP and thought it would be free but had to pay.

SW online is £60 for 3 months. I will see if there are any offers

Puddy - according to the SW site some areas do a "GP referral scheme" where they will pay for you to go to SW I think for 12 weeks and then if you need more they may pay for the next 12 weeks. Whatever, it's all explained on the site.

However, you might guess my area is not in this scheme - I asked our consultant!:(

To join a SW group at the mo costs £9.95 first week and £4 something thereafter.

thanks, i have done sw before and have all the books. i too have been on every diet and read every thing about what foods are best etc. its the main reason i cant stand talking about losing weight, people think that you're thick and dont know that you shouldnt be eating a pork pie with chips for a healthy tea
my problem is that i use food to celebrate and commiserate. it never lets me down and is compeltely reliable. its like a drug but is obviously killing me like one

if i remember rightly the last time i did sw i got really bad upset tummy because of the amount of veg and salad i was eating because i couldnt be bothered to measure out the carb based healthy extras so didnt eat any

if was to be the correct weight, i have about 9 stone to lose but would be happy with about 5 or 6 to be honest. in fact i would be estatic to lose 5 or 6 pounds!!

I have found a new pkt of the following lurking in our breadbin.

They're not listed on SW syns on-line though.

Jacobs Flatbreads (crackers with salt & cracked black pepper)

Box says each cracker has 41 cals.
    0.3g Sugar, 0.8g Fat. 0.3g Saturates and 0.1g Salt.

    Syn value anybody please?

So you know where you went wrong then.;) I honestly think you have to draw a line under what went wrong in the past and concentrate on the future. Look at SW with a new eye (because quite a lot has changed) and tell yourself this time will be different.

If you can get to a group and you have an inspiring consultant there I'm sure you'll succeed. Best of luck!
  • Puddy, you will lose weight if you really want to. If you don't really want to, you won't. It is as simple as that. Nothing is easy, you have to put some effort (and usually some money !) in. My mantra is "I am doing this for me".

Also, once you've paid money why waste that money by not following the instructions? That is foolish. Anyone can make excuses but you are only fooling yourself (I mean "one-self", I'm not getting at you just trying to fire you up!)

I have tried SW before and I scoffed and argued and questioned ... and didn't lose weight. I started again and thought "I am paying £5 a week, I might as well get my moneysworth", I stay to class, I check what I am eating, I have cut back on the wine and "bad" things -I now call them the "fun" things and they are limited! It works, truly it works, but IT DOES TAKE AN EFFORT. :p

This isnt getting at you Puddy, but is an attempt to enthuse all the people who have said in the last couple of days they are thinking of trying slimming world.

Oh, and there's not much weighing, most healthy extras can be just counted (1, 2, 3 of something). On extra easy there's no other weighing to do.

    TRY IT!!!!!:D
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!
  • When I weighed 11 stone i was a size 14 then at 13 stone I was a 16 and now at 15 stone I am a size 18. However as I have only just crept up to a size 18 I think i will only need to get down to 14 stone to be a comfortable 16.

my dear you sound EXACTLY like me before i done SW this time round!! When i tried it before they only had red and green days so whenever i wanted chilli for example i'd call it a green day and forget to weigh my beef... then i gave up...

This time with Extra Easy things are soooo much easier!

Plus if i was down you would find me binging on bread, crisps, chocolate. . etc.. i would eat and eat and eat and eat until my stomach hurt. If i was celebrating i would focus more on the food.. esp at xmas! So if someone like me can do well - so can you!!

9 stone IS achievable! But even losing 5 would make you feel AMAZING! Trust me on that one!! :D
