do you see that alot of folk here started at a young age being 'weight aware' and stuck on diets all of their lives?
I guess for some of us that might be true. I've not been on diets all my life, thankfully, but I've certainly 'indulged' in them when I've felt the need.
Another perspective is that maybe they have had a life-long issue with over-eating, or eating unhealthily?
Personally I can attribute my eating issues into 2 categories: 1) emotional eating, stemming from childhood, and 2) unhealthy eating, learned from my parents and other family members, then marrying someone who had even more unhealthy eating habits.
Since I re-evaluated my emotional eating, about 8 years ago, it hasn't been as big a problem, and being in a relationship with a very healthy eater has helped me to recognise where I was being so very unhealthy (and in part, lazy), and now know when I am making the right or wrong choices. The key is, that I know it's down to me to make those choices.
My mother tried to get me to attend Weight Watchers with her and her friend when I was about 13, and I absolutely refused. I was very upset that she'd even asked me, because I didn't want to accept that I was fat. What I did was stuck my head in the sand, refused to accept I had a problem over-eating, or that I could take control of it. I ate more and more in secret, knowing what I was doing was bad for me. I gained weight steadily, so that by the time I left school I was in a size 16/18 uniform, and by the time I left college I was an 18/20. By the time my 21st birthday came around, the only party dress I could find to fit into was a maternity dress, in a size 22 (bear in mind I'm just about 5ft tall, that's a lot of weight to carry). It was a major low point in my life. I was lethargic, lazy, food obsessed, and downright miserable. After that horrific birthday, and the Christmas soon after, I vowed to change my eating habits. I cut out all the rubbish, but didn't follow a diet as such, and was steadily losing 1 stone a month, for the next 5 months. I was a size 14 by the following summer, got my 1st boyfriend, and went on a wonderful 3 week holiday I'd have never dreamed of embarking on at my previous size. I gained in confidence, but most importantly I felt alive and full of energy. I vowed I would never get to be that size again, and fortunately I never have, and whenever my weight has crept back up again, whether after having a baby or just getting back into bad habits, I take control. I know how to eat healthily, most people do, but it's choosing to do so that is the big difference.
Attending a slimming club, where eating healthily is the main focus (and for children losing weight isn't their aim, but just maintaining so that they grow into it is) is surely far better than waiting until they are so unhappy with their weight that they'll adopt a more drastic, unhealthy regime, which could affect their well-being, and not equip them with the tools to make the right choices for the rest of their life.
I have a long-term friend who has been overweight most of her life, but more so after her early 20's. She has done every single diet going known to man (WW, SW, Lighter Life, Go Lower, Rosemary C, Slim Fast, etc., etc). She's now trying hypnotism, after attending Overeaters Anonymous didn't work! As an outsider looking in, I can see that the one thing she hasn't done is to accept responsibility that the reason she is overweight is because she is over-eating, and she often does so as a reflex action to her life (good & bad bits). She's also always looking for a 'quick fix', or for a plan to fix her eating issues, but once off-plan, she's back to her habits again. She's looking for someone else to blame... mainly her mother, who she has a difficult relationship with, but who she sees now as the root evil eating force. At the age of 45 though, I think my friend needs to accept that it is she, and she alone who has full control over her eating habits, and has done for the past 25 years. Until she changes her lifestyle, she will be no doubt be looking for medical intervention to reduce her weight in the future, but that still won't alter her mind-set.
I guess we are all different, and issues with weight and body image can be at either end of the spectrum. None of us want that for a child, so any parent will want to be especially careful where any new eating regime is introduced. My own point of view, and I know it won't be shared by all, is that SW offers the opportunity to eat plenty of food, and to still thoroughly enjoy it, whilst knowing that it is healthy, and then to back all that up with consciously ensuring you do some exercise too.
Sorry for rambling on. :cool:One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Do you cook the couscous normally first? Do you leave it overnight to absorb?
I cooked it normally, left it to cool, then stirred in the yog. It does taste odd but not unpleasant. I used to do the oats, had it too often and then it palled.
PS Could someone tell me please the syns in Knorr Hotpot 'cubes' chicken flavour? They are the little foil covered mini-tubs of concentrated stock.0 -

Yes, if you do either the extra easy days or the green days then the asda smartprice chicken noodles are 2.5 syns (you get 15 syns a day). The low fat batchelors supernoodles are syn free though so they would be a better (but more expensive) choice.0
