I was just wondering, pollysg, what the Bella offer is?
papoosue:)
Hi, I thought I saw details on the minimims site of a half price discount offer due to come out at the beginning of Jan; now I am wondering if it was an old post from last year as I can't find it today!

assorted fruit
B - not sure, poss yog (1Syn), couscous
L - LO shepherd's pie/swede n carrot mash, peas, yog (1Syn)

Snacks - more fruit, ff yog,

I bought a Rosemary Connelly workout DVD from Morrisons. It's an old one but was only £3. It looked better than any of the celeb ones there. I'll give it a whirl tomorrow.

I am SW stalwart having lost weight on this plan numerous times in the past as it's so fab, I am considering taking my dd tonight to class (I'm not a member at the moment), as I am at my wits end with her, she is only 11 but is now 10st 2lbs and has a waits measurement of 34 inches. She is in a womens size 12 clothes. She has always been a big eater since a baby but as she has got older she has got less active, hates all kinds of sports and just wants to spend all her time listening to music, watching TV, on the laptop or texting her friends on her phone! I am a runner and now manage to keep my weight down through running, although want to get about 1st off to help me run better so am going to start class again myself.
I am just worried about taking an 11 year old to a slimming class as what that may do to her mentally although she tells me she does want to go and lose some weight (she brought the subject up not me)
Has anyone got any advice for how to deal with an overweight preteen?
Hi Millie,
I joined SW in November with my 12 y/o son. He's been overweight for a couple of years, but had really started to pack on the weight in the past year. I've also put weight on in the last year or so, and have been overweight for most of my adult life, as well as a chubby child from the age of 8 onwards. I could see how miserable his weight was making him, especially at his age, when other friends are shooting up in height, wearing skinny jeans and dressing really fashionably, and he'd desperately like to do the same, but has to stick with baggy jeans and sweatshirts. He's not blessed with being tall for his age either, so he looks even podgier than he is sometimes. He's a gorgeous looking boy, so has attention from the girls already, but he lacks confidence more and more as he gets older.
I had already decided I was going to tackle my weight at SW, and when I was reading the website to get an idea of the plan, I noticed the offer for taking 11-15 y/o's for free. I asked my son if he fancied coming along with me, and he said yes. He's really enjoyed the meetings, and loves the fact that we get to do something just on our own, without his dad or his brothers going with us. We have an 1.5hrs just to go out to what he seems to feel is an exclusive little club. He gets to drink diet lemonade, we take along a fibre bar for a snack, and he loves to listen to the other members chatting and having a laugh. I thought he'd be really shy, but he's been able to contribute in the meetings, and genuinely enjoys them (he even came to the Christmas party for 3 hours with me).
I think the reason I felt SW was going to be a 'safe' option to choose for someone of his tender years, where he might be impressionable and liable to pick up on faddy diets, is that it is just teaching him how to eat healthily. I was feeding him healthy meals at home, but the weight was going on based on what he was eating/buying outside the home. I needed him to begin to take control for himself, and learn to make healthier options. So, he now doesn't choose pizza for lunch at school, but has a ham roll on wholemeal bread (or he counts the multi-grain bread as a syn), he's stopped eating sweets as much, but if he does he counts them into his daily allowance. My aim was for him to not gain anymore weight, I'd have been happy with that, knowing he was going to grow best part of a foot in the next few years, but he's actually lost 10lb in 7 weeks! He eats lots of food, has treats and desserts, but it's all within the Extra Easy plan. The main thing we've stopped eating so much of (and buying) is white bread, and we both feel so much better for it.
If your daughter is asking to go along to the meetings, then supporting her, and helping her to have the food at home to fit in with the plan is what she'll need. The 1st couple of weeks we religiously did our food diaries, and tried to plan the day's meals ahead, or at least consider what options he could take if he was in school. We even went for weigh in this week, and he lost 1.5lb! He had the biggest grin on his face, and came out of there saying 'oh yeah, I'm the biggest loser!' He's so proud of himself, and I can see his confidence is growing. He's choosing to be more active, knowing that it's going to have a positive effect, and actually thinking more about the foods he's eating. He's not been restricted over the Christmas holiday with what he's had to eat, had plenty of chocolates, cake, etc., but the main meals I've cooked have been within our SW plan, and he's still ensuring he's having his fruit & veg with meals.
Give it a go, make sure that it's a positive experience. Of all the plans I do think SW is the most 'normal', healthy eating plan there is. It doesn't rely on gimmicks, radically low calorie meal replacements, or faddy processed foods, it's just good, honest healthy stuff, and it's easy to put together.
Here's an example of what my son likes to have for his meals on an average day:
B - 2 x alpen light bars, pineapple, satsuma (or any other fruit)
L - wholemeal ham roll, orange juice (synned) at home he'll have bacon & eggs with mushrooms
D - chicken in sauce with pasta/ sausage & mash / burger & SW chips/ roast dinner & all the trimmings, etc.
Snacks - 2 finger kitkat, yogurts,
His Healthy Extras are : alpen bars, wholemeal bread, milk (used in cereal or as a low fat hot choc), low fat cheese. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
Well I went to my first class and I wasn't a heavy as I thought I was going to be so happy with that. I also bought a 12 week countdown so I will go as I hate wasting money. Going to try and do a menu plan for the week. Leader has asked me to try and do EE for 4 weeks I'm used to red or green but I will give it a go and see what happends.GC July £250/0

For what its worth, Mum took me along to weight watchers when I was about 11 I guess, I lost about 1/2 a stone, and enjoyed the meetings. I don't think it caused me more problems, I didn't go back to a weight loss club (Slimming world) until I was 19. Obviously didn't cure my overeating of naughtly foods habit though
Have just scared myself falling down a friend's stairs today  And I was doing so well. I just wanted to have a go at going up them on crutches, but I got about 4 good ones in then lost my balance and nearly took their banistair with me  made me very upset and question whether going back to college (with scary steep set of stairs) in 2 weeks time is a good move, particularly as the plaster is due to come off soon, so no protection for the leg if I do go splat!
Today's eats:
b: cereal and milk. Not sure what to count this as yet, as it was more than 28g. I think it can genuinely be a healthy b for part of it because it was nuts, but maybe add another 6 syns. Or more? Hmm.
l: cous cous and vegetables, no problems there.
Small (mini) iced cupcake at the friend's house. Say 4 syns, does that sound about right?
d: Was going to be chippy (not my choice but we were out late and not organised) but it was closedSalad, tinned potatoes, and ham. B choice for ham, but again I'mm not sure if it'll be more than a portion's worth.
So thats what, 2 x b and 10 syns so far... I'm NOT going to turn to comfort eating due to the upset of falling down stairs  (that is meant as a "I'm well hard and didn't cry - honestly" type of face) Would love a nana and toffee muller later on though :A
congrats to everyone who has weighed in, there have been some good losses for Christmas, and the gains haven't been horrific either :T I wonder if this is because the people who gained 7lbs plus are skiving away from here for now....
Welcome to the new people :T Hope you enjoy your slimming journey :jNothing tastes as good as riding a horse feels0 -

Great news that you're not as heavy as you expected! The EE was the plan that was explained to me when I joined and I find it good. Basically you choose 1 Healthy A from Page 21 & 1 Healthy B from pages 23-25 of the Food Optimising book, as much of the free food listed on pages 11-19 (fruit, veg, pulses, rice, pasta, eggs, fat free fromage frais, cottage cheese, yogurt, quark, quorn, meat, poultry, fish, storecupboard staples etc.) and then, of course, your syns! I folded in pages 29-33 of my book to avoid confusing myself with the red & green options!
I can see that, if you have used the other plans before, Extra Easy could be confusing as foods that require measuring on Red & Green days can be free on Extra Easy Days and that you only have 1hea & 1heb instead of 2 but I find it flexible and easy to work with once you get the hang of it. Good luck and sure you can always ask any questions here!A diet is the penalty we pay for exceeding the feed limit!:rotfl:
Joined SW 13/9/10 - wanted to lose 56lb and lost 26lb! Rejoined on 9/1/12 having gained 17lb of my loss!!!
Want to lose 50lb. 50 - 8.5 = 41.5 to go!0 -

do you see that alot of folk here started at a young age being 'weight aware' and stuck on diets all of their lives?0 -
I went to weigh in today and have put on half a pound - that is my first gain since starting in September so not too bad!
Thought it might be more after what I have eaten over Christmas and the wine/chocolate.
Have got all my fruit/vege/salad and am doing a food diary again and recording all syns.
Back on track again now, consultant said lets just have a flexi drinks evening tomorrow then back to plan:D
Will make a butternut squash/lentil soup tomorrow or at the weekend ready for weekday lunches once back at work. Diet wise I'll be better once back at work.
Given lots of my Christmas chocolates away, might take some more to work but still keeping the Hotel Choc for myself but will make it last - my stubborn/determined head is on again after a weeks holiday:rotfl:Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.

I think that's a little bias as a SW thread is only going to attract those on SW or considering SW. There are going to be loads of people who went on diets as youngsters and have never "relapsed" and we won't hear about those people.
I had my WI this evening and I've lost half this week which I'm very pleased with!
Menu for the day - EE
Lunch
Jacket Potato
tsp lighter butter - 1.5
2x joes sausages
Carrots
Broccoli
Mushrooms
Dinner
Spaghetti Bolognese
Snacks
Weetabix Oaty Bar (HEB)
So I've still got a HEA and 13.5 syns to play with. I have a chocolate log so might have a slice of that for pudding which would be 13 syns (oh that is worse than I thought).0 -
Hello everyone, I'm just sat sucking a single minstrel! Not sure how many syns for 1 but I'm within my syns for the day so it'll be fine! We had a lovely walk today and were out for over an hour and a half. For tea tonight I made the creamy garlic mushroom sauce from MrsM's meatball recipe and it was deeeeelish, totally went with the rest of the tea!! I'm having a green day:
Brekkie - porridge (HEA&B)
Lunch - supernoodles, pear
Snack - apple
Tea - chicken (HEB), roast spuds, carrots, green beans, sprouts, creamy garlic mushroom sauce (8......we ate it all, it'd never do 4 in our house but next time I might add some stock and thicken with a tiny bit of cornflour to make it go further).0
