I don't even know if you rememeber who I am as I changed my username, used to be 'AM'
Thanks, this is the first time I have ever stuck with any sort of plan for longer than a day!
Yep, I know who you are;) Hope you're doing alright and settled in your new place:)consultant31 wrote: »You can ignore as much or as little of the plan as you choose, but you're not Food Optimising unless you follow it 100%.
We all know that you will still lose weight as long as you take in fewer calories than you need BUT the plans have been designed to teach people how to eat well and more importantly, how to eat normally, since lots of us have forgotten where our 'stop' button is.
Couscous and chick peas are free food as long as they are used as they were intended to be used - as the basis of a filling meal. Once ground and used to make cakes, they become synned so that we don't all merrily eat cake all day instead of varied and nutritious meals (and there are people who would eat cake all day if they were told it was ok and they'd still lose weight).
You may well know all sorts about nutritional science, but you don't know how the plans are formulated and designed - that is something that SW keep to themselves obviously.
Tweaking the plans (which is what you're doing) could result in a slimmer not getting enough of a variety of foods as believe it or not they really are members who would eat couscous cake and lasagne crisps several times a day to fill up on instead of using them as a 'treat' to be eaten sparingly.
Your weight loss is excellent, but then so is MrsMcCawbers and she follows the plan to the letter
Also, sorry but I have to mention this - every man I ever had as a member in group always, always lost weight faster than the women. It's most annoying but true....probably to do with the fact that most men have more muscle than women.
I don't actually misuse any foods because I completely agree with what you are saying about eating 'normally' i.e...cake is made from flour, butter, eggs, sugar so instead of making some odd concoction of a cake, just learn to eat less of the usual variety.....this would be eating 'normally!!!!
But I can also see the argument from the other side:p

But you're not so likely to overeat hummous as you are cake especially if you've got to syn the crackers that you eat it with!
If you're prepared to eat hummous with carrot batons or celery etc then it will effectively be pushing you into filling up on fresh vegetables whereas cake has little or nothing to recommend it other than lots of empty calories.I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -
just finished my lemon chicken - and it was bloomin' lovely!
:D
I can't see anything in it that carries syns, except maybe the corn flour?
Frylight
2 x 113g chicken breasts
150ml chicken Bovril
142 ml semi skimmed milk (used some HEA)
grated zest and juice of 1/2 lemon
1 tbsp cornflour blended with a little cold water
salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 small onion, diced
1 large carrot, diced
1 courgette, diced
Mushrooms
Red Pepper
basmati rice, cooked (HEB)
Does anyone know how many syns are in a tbs of cornflour?

Yes but I think the point Consultant is making (obviously thru her years of doing the job) is that most people who join SW dont have that common sense bit that can just 'eat less' of a normal cake and likewise if they get hold of a recipe that means they can eat cake all day long....then they very probably will (as thats what they were doing before)
The Science behind SW works.....we all know that - we just have to look at MRSM if in any doubt
Wootball may well have been having this cake regularly...and losing (but like consultant says men ALWAYS lose more than women,we have men in our group who do the same, but in his posts he also says he does loads of sessions in the gym too- so maybe that is what is enabling him to 'get away with the not following plan exactly' I know I wouldnt be able to eat it freely and lose too well.
At the end of the day if SW say things are to be synned....or its classed as food misuse.....then I'd be tempted to stick firmly to what they say - they've been in the business an awful long time0 -

Yeah I'm settledish, hate it but can't move back home until next year so making the best out of it x0 -
I found it a bit too sickly with the flavoured yoghurt in it so I added a small amount of sweetener and a Total 0% Greek Yoghurt and then had fresh raspberries and strawberries with it!
thinking about it, I used to often enjoy eating leftover "regular" rice (basmati or just long grain) that I had cooked with spices, and mixing in some plain yog. (warm rice and cold yoghurt) It's lovely and I must try it again. There's obviously no law saying breakfast has to be sweet because we can have beans on toast, bacon and eggs, etc!Morning everyone.
Has anyone got any advise of how to get past a plateau?
I've done all the usual of upping my fluids, making sure i write down every morsel that passes my lips, moving more (exercise) and still nothing.
This looks to be my 3rd week of STS and its getting me down.
On the good side, I started off pretty well and have lost 9.5lbs but i've been on plan since 7 Oct (8 weeks) so i'm not even averaging 2lbs per week.
I will happily accept my first STS as I did have 2 meals over plan but since then, i've been sticking to plan and nothing is working.
I dont go to a class so i dont have a SWC to ask. :-(
It's demoralising to stay the same week after week but actually, as I understand it, an average of ONE pound a week loss is perfectly fine (*ahem* see my sig! but I'm not saying it for that reason). However, definitely it makes a difference if you startle your body out of its complacency now and again! You could make SW quiche and take a slice for breakfast, either cold or heated in the microwave; or take a yoghurt to have with your porridge oats or another cereal plus fruit. Good luck, you WILL lose it.consultant31 wrote: »But you're not so likely to overeat hummous as you are cake especially if you've got to syn the crackers that you eat it with!

how embarrassing to admit I can happily eat hummous off my fingerthat's why I rarely make it!
back in work today so it's taken ages to catch up on all your chatting!:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

Does the syn value not therefore depend on whether you misuse the cake you've made? At the end of the day, the basic principles of SW mean that you can technically eat as much free food as you like - but reason would suggest that in practice there still has to be a limit? On a green day you can theoretically eat as many potatoes as you want, however, I would think that's underpinned by the idea that most people will not realistically gorge themselves on potatoes and eat more than is sensible?
I don't personally intend to make any of these cakes or whatever else, as I'd rather just have the real thing and use my syns, but if the modified cake carries less calories and is more nutritious than a normal one, then I don't see the harm in it if a person can trust themselves not to overeat it?
For me, SW is all about learning to modify the food you would eat normally, so that it still tastes good, but it's just better for you?
Just my tuppence worth!

Crap_with_money.com wrote: »Thanks blackberry-rum - you're totally right it wasn't enough for me - I've been starving most of the day yesterday and the day before!
I've had a mammoth brunch today to make up for it though - I guess eating so much when you're trying to lose weight just takes a bit of getting used to!
Today for me:
Brunch: Omelette (2 eggs, basil, cherry tomatoes, red pepper, onion and cooked king prawns) + smoked salmon salad with the juice of 1/2 a lemon. 2 Pints of sugar free diluting juice (is this free?)
Snacks: Grapes, Satsumas and Activia 0%
Dinner: Lemon chicken with rice (HEB) - provided I can find the recipe!
I've roasted a whole chicken which I may pick at it for snacks (random I know, but I love roast chicken, and I always find snacks on a red day a bit harder!)
I'll also have a glass of milk later to make up my HEA!
I'm on day four without any bread (a hard one for me!) and I haven't even found it that difficult!
Saving my syns for tomorrow and Saturday!Anyone any suggestions for nice relatively low syn puddings?
xx
that looks so much better .... and makes me feel better too! :rotfl:for a pudding you could try a microwaved alpen light with yoghurt or flavoured quark on top as was suggested by Billee - or mini meringues are low syn and could be sandwiched with equally low syn squirty cream mixed with berries.:jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j
thank you Slimming World!
