Happy Monday everyone. (Trying to be upbeat even though it's WI day for me & little Sary today)!
Thick snow here today. Managed to get the 2 youngest to school, OH set off for Birmingham (about 2hrs away), and it took him over 1hr to get 10 miles from home! Looks like he'll be having a very long day at the Bike Show today. It's still snowing now, so my kiddies are going to be out in that after school.
Good reminder about the rice Lucy. The best way to cool rice quickly, if you want to use if cold, or store it, is to drain it in a seive, and then run it under cold running water. It cools the grains down almost instantly.
Dontknow - have you considered having an Alpen light bar & piece of fruit with a cuppa once you get back from the schoolrun? You could then have another one later in the day as a snack. I'm the same as you, I don't feel like breakfast first thing, but often have a late breakfast, and then a late lunch, which tides me over nicely for a 6pm dinner. Sometimes I will have a bowl of porridge (made with sweetener, 2/3 water and a splash of my milk allowance), with a sliced banana mixed in with it - or whatever other fruit I have to hand. This morning I was busy doing lots of other things, so didn't have b/fast until 11am, but in the end I had a banana, some chopped mango and a muller lite yogurt. Then when I finally sat down, I had a couple of Alpen Light bars, and now I feel like I've been a right piggy porker.
Dizzy - I'm making a veggie soup! This is my first attempt at a dyno-rod style soup, although I've not put in nearly as many trump inducing beans. Eldest son is here, and has just been to taste it, and has declared it delicious (and asked me not to eat it all!)... this from a boy who doesn't really eat vegetables. I've made it from: onion, carrots, swede, parsnip, Swiss Boullion stock, chopped tomatoes, a tin of haricot beans, mushy peas, some ginger, parsley & garlic, and I've thrown in some basmati rice. It smells divine. I bought what I thought was some mixed beans, but when I got them home realised it's actually a mixed bean salad... methinks that is meant for something other than soup!
Food today:
B - muller light, banana, alpen bars x 2 [HEB]
L - H/M dyno-rod soup
D - ... not quite sure what to have, as we're at the SW meeting until gone 7.30pm. Will think about what to have, but may end up being bacon & eggs.

Hi girls
Can anyone advise on my dilemma plz?
If i have the following for my breakfast and lunch, am I still open to a RED day or can i only go Green or EE from here?
B Porridge & Milk with banana
L- Chicken salad with a few fries (6syns)
Plum & Apple. Kiwi & Satsuma.
So if i've synned the fries, do they have impact on a red day?
So confused at times :cool:0 -
Lucy_Lastic wrote: »PS. Be careful with the storage of cooked rice (Dizzy had a problem) - I got this from the Food Standards website:
I've heard that reheating rice can cause food poisoning. Is this true?
It's true that you could get food poisoning from eating reheated rice. But it's not actually the reheating that's the problem – it's the way the rice has been stored before reheating.
Uncooked rice can contain spores of Bacillus cereus, bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive. Then, if the rice is left standing at room temperature, the spores will germinate into bacteria. These bacteria will multiply and may produce toxins (poisons) that cause vomiting or diarrhoea. Reheating the rice won't get rid of these toxins.
So, the longer cooked rice is left at room temperature, the more likely it is that bacteria, or the toxins they produce, could stop the rice being safe to eat.
It's best to serve rice when it has just been cooked. If that isn't possible, cool the rice as quickly as possible (ideally within one hour) and keep it in the fridge for no more than one day until reheating.
Remember that when you reheat any food, you should always check that it's steaming hot all the way through, and avoid reheating more than once.
Oh boy did I have trouble  :rotfl:
They did a thing about rice on Jimmys food farm the other week on BBC I dont know if anyone saw it?
the pudding rice doesnt actually take that long to boil up 50g for a pretty decent bowlful sized serving (when mixed up with a muller) and now and again I make double....rinse half of it quickly in cold water and put it in the fridge -as its also very nice cold with yog too0 -
Hello all,
So after a few weeks off I am now back on the SW bandwagon with a mission to stick to it to the letter until Xmas day - and then again throughout 2011. Enough is enough! *look of determination on face*
It just hit me, after a morning of eating rubbish, that this is madness and it must stop.
so... I've had all my syns today but there is no point in waiting till tomorrow to start, I will just put it off longer.
Tonight's dinner is going to be veg casserole with butter beans.
Tomorrow and the rest of the week looks like this:
Breakfast: shredded wheat or weetabix with rice milk (HEB and HEA????)
Snack: Fruit and 0% yoghurt
Lunch: home made veg soup
Dinners will be lean meat (if EE day) with rice/noodles/pasta and veg, or will be vegetarian chilli, stir fry or jacket potato (if Green day) and then will have 1 more HEB and HEA accordingly.
Desserts will be Options hot choc
Does anyone know how many syns are in Options hot choc? Is it the same as Highlights (2)??
Also - Is rice milk synned, free or HEA??? Have discovered I feel a lot better without normal milk so have been having it on my cereal for the last 2 weeks.
thanks!!Betty B: The Eternal Procrastinator....

Does anyone know if couscous can be counted as a B choice when you're on a red day? And if so how much?
First day on plan today, so trying to mealplan since I've found some unexpected free time, but I've left my book at home! Whoops!!
Dontknowanymore Have you tried even just grabbing a bit of fruit and eating it in the car on the school run - you're best to get your metabolism started as early as you can if possible. I usually just have a banana or something in the morning - I'm never up early enough to be any more prepared than that!0 -

I'm well off plan today. Took me 2 hours to get 10 miles this morning, went to cafe and had tea with sugar and a crispy cake. Don't care!
Escaped and went home via the shopping centre, thought i was going to get stuck. Didn't luckily. Did get a wee snicker at the big shiny merc and BMW 4x4s getting stuck in the snow:rotfl:I hate 4x4s with a passion - unless they are obviously working vehicles in which case i make an exception. I cruised past in my little peugeot:p While i was in M&S though i picked up a bargainiferous free range turkey reduced from £25 to £8, so that is xmas dinner sorted:money:
Got some decidedly un SW food too while i there, so will most likely be off plan tomorrow too:eek:
Well done to those with losses, especially the unexpected ones:TThe trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Ooooh thank you mrs M. I can feel a lovely munch on micro'd alpen lights coming on this evening.0

Hello Betty, the allowance for rice milk is 250ml as your HEA. Options are synned the same as Highlights, so 2.0 syns per sachet.
Crap_With, I'm not sure about the couscous. It isn't given as a HEB in the SW book, but don't know if the more experienced members here would know better than me.
I've just had some of my h/m soup, and it was absolutely lovely.
Not bad for a 1st attempt. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
