  • If you want to get the BEST value out of your iPhone, get it jailbroken. The amount of people who don't bother jailbreaking their device really dumbfounds me as it's so incredibly easy to do these days.

It can offer you so much. the best jailbroken apps I have are Activator which allows me to map functions to the buttons of my phone, so I've set it so that when I hold my up/down volume buttons I can skip track forwards/backwards, which is great as it saves me fiddling around with my headset. Particularly in winter with my thick gloves!

Also LockInfo is an absolutely excellent app which allows me to view my new emails, texts, missed calls, upcoming events and notifications all from my LockScreen. It's great.

yes, I heard about it. The reason I don't do it is in case I do something wrong and my phone wont work anymore.
ANd I understand that Apple won't fix anything on a jailbroken phone, right?

BassistMike - You're NOT ALLOWED TO - that's why people don't jailbreak their precious, expensive iPhones - you never heard of a warranty?
From a non-iPhone owning homebrew software enthusiast...
  • I totally understand people's hesitance but from my own experience, there's never been anything to worry about, especially if you're not relying on an unlock.

Although it does void the warranty to jailbreak, you ARE allowed to. Apple recently lost their legal case which tried to make jailbreaking illegal. All you have to do is restore your phone to factory settings to remove the jailbreak before returning it to Apple, and they're none the wiser. I had an old 3G repaired at a Genius Bar after I removed a jailbreak.

I've never encountered any problems during a jailbreak, but of course I suppose that's just a risk I've taken which has paid off.

I suppose it's just something I'm interested in and I apologise for sounding somewhat condescending in my previous post.

    Cheers,
    Mike
  • Im all for jailbreaking as it does make the iphone more complete and tbh its no more different than the rooters and rom changers who fiddle with their android or window devices.

With jailbreaking being so easy nowadays its really is a no brainer and as bassistMike said, just as easy to remove if any warranty claim occurs.

Problem is both of them kill your battery life :(

  • I find both ok, certainly no big reduction on battery consumption my end.
