Thanks for that, I was thinking about knocking about £8 -10 off and stating damage hence cheap price. I think it could be one of those books thats up for ages but its worth a try I suppose.

Are you sure there arent any other editions of the William book listed? The last William book was published in 1970 so your book is a reprint. Its possible the people listing the item you have for £ 50 are the notorious American dealers who put crazy prices on things just because there are no others listed of that particular edition. You need to check for other editions of your title from about the same date as these would be the ones buyers would look for.

The Just William books have been reprinted every few years since they were published, the latest version, still in print is 2006. Amazon have a new copy at £4.79.

There were several follow up books, also all reprinted for the same price on Amazon and the problem is a straight search turns up the newer editions first. However, if someone is collecting from a particular print run then they may well wait until a book from that particular print run comes up.

Yes, as I said her book is a reprint not a First Edition. Without knowing which book and reprint it is impossible to know whether those listed at £ 50 are merely some of the American scam sellers. Would need to know which reprint it is in order to be able to check whether there are other copies of the same reprint listed elsewhere on Amazon because if there are then no collector will buy her copy at those sort of prices.

No, unfortunately you need to have a us based bank account to be able to set up as a .com marketplace seller. At least that's what I was told when I asked a few months back ;)

Oh Well?! I thought I might make just a little bit more extra cash!

    Thanks for your help:beer:
  • Just to let you know my experience of BUYING books from the market place. I have bought 5 books in the last month. Three have been text books, one manangement book and one craft book. The three text books were cheap but i felt they were not described accurately. One was for "like new" and was really only what i felt as "good" and the other two where described as "very Good" while i would not have listed them as anything better than "acceptable". Both were heavily used and one was water damaged. Two out of the three were poorly packed and two out of three of them would have been lucky to make money on them as the postage would have been more than the combined selling and postage price. All took at least a week to arrive.

The management book was only a penny book. It came in a new jiffy bag and then wrapped again in bubble wrap and it was as good, if not better than described and arrived within days. Very impressive.

The craft book was also sent in a new jiffy bag. As good if not better than described and sent first class day after ordering (ordered Sunday). Again very impressed.

That's really interesting, thanks for that Kaminari....

I find it amazing that people can "over describe" their items...and I'm sure it says somewhere on the Amazon seller guide that you should use a new jiffy everytime, and let's face it they're not that expensive!

I still think it depends on the persons own perception of the book, it's easy when you have books of varying qualtiy to compare with but not so when you are listing a few books.

I rarely list like new unless I have bought the book new and not read it!! Yes I have a few of those. :o

I use recycled jiffy bags sometimes, it's not the cost it's the ability to re-use things rather then throwing them away. When I have bought from the market place I have received things in recycled jiffy bags, my first thought is always good for them!

Anyhoos, I've just sold another book so I am pleased as I don't have many for sale at the moment!!
