selling your stuff on Amazon - part 7 - advice for newbies in the first post

I check the other listings before selecting my price. Especially as some of the other listings will be from the States and will offer 7-10 days delivery. I find I can price higher then them and still sell as postage from the UK will arrive before the States version.

when you get to the option to enter the amount you wish to sell for, on the right hand side of the page is a box that says
Title
xxxxxCurrent Marketplace offers
14 used from £1.50
If you click on the link it will show you the books for sale at that amount.
I'm not sure if it's a new feature or if I just did things the long way round when I first listed

Its a shame you cant view how long a listing has been up, it makes it easier to decide if you want to sell a certain item. There is a DVD we have for £40 but I dont know how long the others have been up there.
I don't believe in undercutting but I have to admit that I have done it a couple of times. A few weeks ago I purchased a textbook, it was in only 'good' condition and the other 5 copies or so were very good or like new and the lowest price was £30, my conscience would not allow me to price-match because mine was just not worth that much money, so I undercut and priced it at what I deemed was reasonable, I would not want an email saying 'I want a refund this book is not worth £30!' Am I wrong?
Perhaps this 'new seller' has undercut for the same reason? Although more than likely they are a typical new seller who has no idea, just thought I would lend a new perspective.

Sammz wrote:You could just search for the book and look at what's listed then click the "Sell Yours Here" link. That's what I've been doing and doesn't take any time at all.
I do that too, that way I can look at the descriptions and how many are actually being sold. With the amazon listing being so fast, it doesnt take long to do those extra little checks.
Sold 2 more items today :j Only got 6 items left  What else can I sell? MmmWork like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Thanks for the suggestions... those in the know can find a way round the 'problem', but the way the prices show up encourages the casual Amazon seller to list at the lowest price, or undercut, leading to 1p prices faster than necessary! (IMHO)
How hard would it be to show 'Lowest marketplace price for Very Good'?
(I work in databases, I know how hard; the answer is Not Hard)
My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

Here's my gripe: when you list an item, it tells you the absolute lowest marketplace price, so naturally, you want to list at that price or lower. What it DOESN'T tell you is that that £1.50 book is actually a copy in poor condition, and that the books in the same very good condition as the one you are listing are actually listed at more like £3.
So you've listed your book cheaply because Amazon told you that was the lowest price. It sells. YOU get less money, and Amazon get less fees.
Is it just me who finds this stupid?
Fay, I would suggest that you do just a tiny bit of research before listing each book, it doesn't take long, but like other have said, click in the new and used items and check out your competition. You might be missing out on alot of money if you always list at the cheapest price (please don't undercut!). For example:
You have a book that is in 'Like new' condition, you check the used price and it says from £2.50, so you match that price.
OR you have a look in the used items and notice that the cheapest book at £2.50 is in 'acceptable' condition and is a new seller. The second book in the list is actually selling for £15 and this first seller has undercut all the other sellers massively. If it were me, I would list mine at £14.99, thereby undercutting the second cheapest seller by 1p and thereby making you the second cheapest but with a much better condition book than the first seller. Anyone who wants a book that is in an ok condition will purchase it from you and you have made £12ish more by checking out the other sellers.
Hope that helps.

Now back to me....
I have had a tense couple of days. I received a 3/5 neutral feedback that brought my perfect 100% down to 96%
The feedback said that the packaging hadn't protected the box (it was a game). So I lept into action and emailed the buyer. I apologised for the lack of bubble-wrap, explaining that it was when I had a chest infection several weeks ago and my hubby sent out all my packages for me that week. I apoogised and begged for her to rescind the feedback or amend it to a 4 or 5, in return I offered her a partial refund.
AND
:j :T :j :T :j :T
She agreed, she has removed the feedback and I in turn have given her a small partial refund and I have my lovely 100% back, phew! :A
I know feedback isn't that important on amazon but it is important to me because I price my items a bit higher to allow for my 100% and I get a lot of sales where I was not the lowest item, I believe that will be harder to achieve without my 100%. So thank you to amazon for having a feedback system that allows people to change and remove their feedback, unlike ebay!

I've had 129 books listed for a week and I haven't sold anything - is that normal?
I keep checking my email but no sales!:(0 -
