selling your stuff on Amazon - part 7 - advice for newbies in the first post

Just to warn everyone that I've had 2 scam emails supposedly from Amazon over the past couple of days trying to get me to click on a link in the email and login to my account.
Today's one is very obviously fake, typos all over the place, it's from "Amazon.co.uk" and is entitled "Your Amazon.co.uk Account". Yesterday's one was a much more professional looking one which I can imagine could take people in. It is from "Amazon Marketplace" and is entitled "Your Amazon Marketplace Account".
Update to say, just had another one through, duplicate of the one received earlier today. Someone's busy scamming today. :mad:0 -
BIG WHINGE!!!!
I have only had 5 sales in the last 7 days - a few weeks ago it was 25 - what's happening? Give me all my sales back please...
Thanks in advance oh magical board!

Without knowing which book and reprint it is impossible to know whether those listed at £ 50 are merely some of the American scam sellers. Would need to know which reprint it is in order to be able to check whether there are other copies of the same reprint listed elsewhere on Amazon because if there are then no collector will buy her copy at those sort of prices.
I have put in the ISBN and they are American sellers, one must have been sold in the last day or so (or taken down) because there are only 2 left now.
It is a large print, which when I did my research, is very sought after, and its published in 1982, its 2 years older than me
Why are the Americans scammers? What do they do?Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

Hi
My understanding of the 'American scammers', as they have been labelled, is that they list books that they do not actually have in stock. I understand that if someone comes along and purchases their listing at £50 or £100 then it is worth their while trying to find the book.
I have heard that if you list a genuine book some of them then actually delist their listing.
(I'm sure Amazombie will correct me if I am wrong). Hope that helps.

Is there any way of finding out how long a certian listing has been up? I have some DVD's and CDs that are worth a small fortune with only a few other sellers and I wanted to check if the listings were a big stagnant.
Someone has just undercut me and a load of sellers by £5 on a book :mad:Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Hi IWTS,
'fraid that on Amazon there's no way to tell when you listings have been viewed or how often [if ever]. As far as undercutting goes it is annoying but if you can afford to wait then just sit it out and see if their book sells. It's not a good idea to undercut them even by 1p - better to price match as some big sellers use software to undercut automatically if someone lists lower than them and everybody loses out then - it all goes into a big price spiral...........
My experience has been that sometimes even if my book is a bit more expensive people will still chose it over a cheaper one as I put quite a detailed lisiting and post next working day. I don't think the feedback ratings are too influential either as I've until recently only had 3 feedbacks although I've sold quite a bit.
So hang in there and good luck. Teapot0 -
The lad who has undercut us all is a new seller and obviously doesnt know how it works, hopefully the other sellers will leave the price as it is. A bloody fiver underpriced
Its a shame you cant view how long a listing has been up, it makes it easier to decide if you want to sell a certain item. There is a DVD we have for £40 but I dont know how long the others have been up there.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -

If the seller is not a PM and they have to relist every 60 days, so you may only be able to tell when they last listed the item - although that could be the first time they listed it.
If the seller is a PM you can tell when they first listed it unless they have since purged their listings and relisted 'en bloc'.
What you need to do is go to the item you are interested in and click on the sellers name, then click on the link that says something like 'see other items from this seller', find the item you want to know about within their list of listings - it will look something like:
My Sister's Keeper [Paperback] by Picoult, Jodi
Price: £2.00
Listing ID: 1023T009359
Closes: 22/12/2006 15:22:09 GMT
This tells you that they listed it on 23rd October and will close on 22nd December.
A PM's listing will look like:
Item Purchase Information:
Quantity: 15
Accepted Payment Methods: Amazon Payments.
Location: , United Kingdom
Delivery Terms: Buyer pays. Will deliver internationally.
zShops ID: 0731K046285
SKU number: A034083546X-N
This tells you that they listed it on 31st July and because they are a PM it won't close until all items are sold.
If you can't find what you want to know feel free to post info here and I'll take a look - or PM me if you prefer.

But that could be 31st July 2004, 2005 or 2006?
