selling your stuff on Amazon - part 7 - advice for newbies in the first post

Hi Leon103,
Amazons 'Sold Despatch Now' emails do go astray sometimes - although that is not my reason for not receiving any at the moment, things are just really slow.
If you need to find the address of the buyer then click on 'View your recent Marketplace orders' and then on the 'Order ID' number and that will bring up the buyers address and other order info.
Must admit that after not receiving an SDN myself ages ago I now do what Anastasia does, although it is rather depressing reading at the moment!
Hope that helps a little - all the best with the rest of your books!AMAZON SELLERS CLUB member 0033 come and join us :j make some space and get hold of some cash, we're on the ebay and other auctions, car boot and jumble sales board0 -
Haven't posted in a while but my amazon sales have gone pretty well. The 40 I listed when I got back from holiday have just come to their end of 60 days and I sold 21 of them, and have sold some other things I've listed since too. Since then I'd had a payment of somekind every 2 weeks which is great and have sold a cd and book this week so far.
I'm keeping track of the money I get for each book and how much I spend on postage and will be putting the 'profit' into a savings account once I've got it all sorted which I'm going to use towards new furniture when we eventually buy a house - and we'll have less stuff to move too!

This is my first post so hiya!
I've been lurking for a while and decided to start listing some stuff this morning! I've listed lots of penny books so far, and I'm now looking through my old videos and I think I need some MSE wisdom...
My question is - if the price for a video is 98p - meaning that I'd get £1.38 in the end - is it worth doing? How much is postage for an average video.
Sorry if it's a dumb question - I searched the thread and couldn't find anything...0 -
Wow, would never have though of using Amazon Marketplace if I hadn't found this site. Listed loads of old text books last night (been sitting on a shelf for about 10 years) and when I checked my email this morning I've sold my first one
Even better than that, I bought an old zx spectrum on ebay last year for £25 it came with 10 spectrum books. Some of the books are going for £35 each on Amazon!!!!

well done, another one hooked!
Please join us on the main Amazon thread where we discuss our highs and our lows of selling...we are all rather addicted now I'm afraid.

There is no such thing as a dumb question...otherwise I would have been banned years ago the amount I ask!
Videos are strange on Amazon, the percentage taken by Amazon for their fixed fee is inproportionally high. A basic video sent 2nd class is going to cost £1.39 to post, so not worth doing unless you have a rare one.
Thin books are OK at a 1p if they will go as a large letter, but thicker books are no good at a 1p as they will go as a package and likely to cost a minimum of £1.39 again, and a 1p book only nets the seller £1.41.

I guess I'll stick to ebay for videos then - I have a couple that are reasonably unusual so I think I'll do better there.
Thanks for your advice.
I've listed nearly a hundred books today - lets hope I sell some!0 -

Came back from holiday last night and switched off my holiday settings and sold a book within an hour :j It was a childrens' book I got in a charity shop and it sold for £4.70, its a tiny book so won't take much postage.
Cheered me up as didn't have the greatest holiday and got ill towards the end as well - need more SDN emails to soothe my fevered browI don't have many childrens' books listed and I think thats the first one I've sold. There's lots in the charity shops but have always been a bit wary and not sure of which ones to get. Do other sellers sell childrens books and what do you find goes best or least? Any thoughts?

Children's books aren't a bad buy as they tend to be sold quite cheaply in charity shops and are usually thin enough to go as a large letter - so worth taking a risk, even if they turn out to be penny books.
Look out for Antonia Forest books - her books are really collectable and quite valuable! I found one in my loft and was amazed by the price!
Also Chalet Girl stories seem to be quite collectable and sell quickly - although they aren't worth a great deal.0
