selling your stuff on Amazon - part 7 - advice for newbies in the first post

  • Soo,

    That sounds absolutely awful.

I don't suppose there is any point in checking out if the buyer has any dodgy feedback already. I know you'll probably still have to give the refund, but do you think it would be worth sending the info to Amazon customer services in case there have been other complaints about this buyer - they could be trying it on with quite a few sellers before they get blacklisted by Amazon and if no one actually points them out then they just get away with it for longer.

  • I've had the Amazon selling bug since about January this year. So far I've made about £750 just selling stuff that I've accumulated in the house - I used to be a very avid buyer of books, DVDs and CDs and decided earlier this year it was time to declutter and enough-was-enough.

Thanks to the suggestion in this post I bought a Zebex scanner as well (they're actually about £60 now instead of £70), and decided that it would be easier as well to subscribe to SmartStamp which I find an invaluable time saver.

I get about three sales a day on average (I think I've got about 500 things listed at the moment), and while they might be small bananas money-wise I just look on them as being "out of my house" and gone for good. The best thing I sold was a book on the history of London Underground, which is now out of print - someone paid £55 for that, and it cost me £19 new! :)

Another thing I coded up for myself to help was a Microsoft Access database for bulk uploading things, it basically asks for several things including barcode of the item, price, what shelf or where it is, what condition and then a condition description.

To make things even easier than that I've got a sheet of barcodes which answers all of those questions for me, so to list each item I just have to scan five things.

Anyway enough rambling ... if anyone has Microsoft Access on their machine and would like to see what I've done please let me know. I'll be only too happy to try and help.

Just had to issue a refund. Sold a book earlier on in the week and it was a pending that never went through so I relisted it yesterday. Somehow amazon have now managed to sell 2 copies of the book to 2 different people.
Have refunded and apologised. The name on the email doesn't match the sellers name though so got a feeling that they won't get the email and then want to know where their book is in a week or so.
Just waiting for the negative feedback to come in.

Hi Smartcat - the problem you will find is that YOU relisted it. Amazon now automatically relists pendings that don't sell, I have just confirmed by checking my previous 5 pendings that didn't sell and they have all been relisted by amazon. That is why you sold 2!

That is EXACTLY how I felt matt!!!! I was so excited about my first cruise but I was totally gutted to lose 7 days worth of sales - it is a horrible feeling, but you will get over it! I actually went into the computer room on the boat on my last day onboard and took holiday settings off so that I might have a sale to come home to!

I haven't sold anything for over a week and I was selling at least 5 per week before this.

I've been having the same problem, for the last couple of months I have been selling around 14-25 a week and now it has dropped down to 6!!!! Sure hope it picks up soon (winge!)

Went up into the loft last night for the first time in ages and spent a happy few hours listing stuff on Amazon.

Amazing what some things will fetch though- I've got a box set of Trumpton. Chigley and Camberwick Green and it's just sold for £40. Am a happy Amazonian!
  • Hi Kat,

We are sailing on Volendam with Holland America. This is our 5th cruise and we love it.

Hoping to have some god sales before we go, just to see us off.

It's only an Addiction if you have no control over it.

    Matt

P.S. I have no control over it!!!

Sorry if its in the wrong place.

Basically a month ago I put some old textbooks on Amazon to raise some money.

Haven't heard anything up until today when I get a message from a member saying they have bought my item and hadn't received it yet. I had no email from Amazon saying its been sold. Do they do this or do I have to check my account regularly? I have seen it has been sold but how and when do I get payment? Its coming up on Amazon its been paid but how do I receive the money

    Thanks
    :p

Oh sorry just checked and money is now in my account. it went in yesterday 15 days after she bought it. Is this how it works?

I was selling the book for £20. I received £17.95. She paid £22.50. £2.50 was for p&p do Amazon really take that much off you?
